The snow has arrived and the Alps have been transformed into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy. Chamonix Mont Blanc, located in the heart of the Mont Blanc Massif has long been the go-to winter resort for all things Alpine. Whilst skiing and snowboarding might be the main activities for visitors to the mountains during the snowy months, there are dozens of other fun activities for our guests to experience too. From snow-shoeing to ice climbing, check out our Top 5 Winter Holiday Activities for visitors to Chamonix Mont Blanc.

Snowshoeing

Rug up, strap on some snow shoes and explore the mountains from a calmer perspective! Away from the hustle and bustle of the pistes, snowshoeing is ideal for those who love hiking in the summer months and want to explore the mountain whilst serenely taking in the best that nature has to offer. Escape the crowds, spot local wildlife and bask in the peacefulness of the mountains whilst exploring the backcountry of the most famous ski resort in the world!

Extremely adaptable, snowshoeing is a wonderful activity for people of all ages and abilities. Those looking for something more mellow and family friendly will enjoy one of the hundreds of routes weaving in and out of the local forests of the Chamonix and Trient Valleys. The more adventurous groups can attempt one of the snow-shoe accessible mountain peaks dotted around the valley.

E-Fatbiking

Winter biking is the latest addition to our winter activity arsenal. If you are a fan of mountain biking in the summer months, you will love the thrill of speeding through the snow on an e-fatbike in the winter. Designed especially for snowy terrain, our mountain guides will show you an adrenaline-inducing side of Chamonix few have discovered yet.

Whilst these bikes with their monstrous tyres might look intimidating, a few short practice laps with your guide will turn you into a professional rider in no time at all. E-fatbiking is a fantastic way for novice and expert bikers to explore the entire valley from Les Houches to Le Tour whilst being able to stop and take in the stunning views along the way.

Husky Sledding

Create unforgettable memories with this winter classic that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Perfect for all abilities from the age of 7 years old and up, it is a brilliant Chamonix experience for those who want to take a day off skiing or would like a winter wonderland experience the whole family can enjoy together. You can make it as adventurous as you want - after some short coaching you can take the reins yourself or leave it to the musher to steer you as you race through the Chamonix wilderness.

Parapenting

One of our favourite summer activities is also one of our top winter choices too! Explore Chamonix from a different angle and fly through the alpine air in a tandem paraglider with one of our flying guides. Jump off the side of a mountain and take in the stunning views of Europe’s most famous mountain range from an angle usually only the birds are fortunate enough to see. This might sound like an adrenaline-fuelled activity.

If you’re feeling super adventurous, speed skiing is also an option for the daredevils out there. Put on your skis and let your instructor fly you to some of the most iconic ski routes Chamonix has to offer! Speed skiing is only available to competent off-piste skiers, but if you are looking for something really adventurous this can’t be beaten!

Ice Climbing

If you are an adventure seeker looking to push your boundaries to the next level then ice climbing is for you! Armed with crampons and two ice axes, your mountain guide will help you navigate the frozen waterfalls of the Chamonix Valley (as well as abseiling down!). Although scaling icefalls may seem like an activity only expert mountaineers can tackle, there are plenty of entry-level climbs for adventurous beginners too.

You needn’t worry about a thing as our guides will provide all the equipment you need for your ice climbing experience (apart from some cosy attire!).

Whilst Chamonix might have a reputation as the extreme sports capital of the world, we here at Mountain Action Holidays want to show you that the mountains are truly for everyone. We believe that people of all skill levels can come to Chamonix and experience the best that these mountains have to offer. Skiing and snowboarding might be the main game of winter, but these mountains have so much else to offer and Mountain Action Holidays are the perfect people to show you what that is.
