Archaeology
Old archaeologists never die. They just wish you bone voyage.
History
History vacations suffer from an image problem. They conjure up a picture of a sedate older crowd crammed into coaches, ticking off a list of antiquity...

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Having been "trapped" by COVID then just going away was the most satisfying thing

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

We moved every day. We should have picked one or two places to stay for a couple of nights.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We paid to visit 3 national parks. Lake Ickkeul was clean and tidy but El Feidja was strewn with litter - plastic bottles and bags. Improving the environment
should mean the Tunisians beginning by helping themselves. but the amount of rubbish strewn everywhere showed little or no regard for the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

The guest houses we stayed in were generally very good and the people friendly. As I say above, getting away was the main thing for us. Tunisia does not have
the big, glamorous sights as does, say, Jordan, but it was fine for what we wanted.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We reserve 5% of our clients’ total package cost to invest in the local communities and environment through our partnering 501(c)(3) Second Look Worldwide. These investments are tangible projects which our clients can see during their trip. All projects are determined by the communities and dependent on their most direct needs, however, we are focusing on projects that support water management solutions. In Tunisia, we will be working in the Tozeur region of the country to support water management practices.

We operate on a completely paperless basis when communicating with clients and our contacts on the ground, recycle all plastic bottles from the tours. In Tunisia, all UNESCO heritage site fees go towards maintaining and preserving the monuments.

For our tours to Tunisia, we reserve a portion of the tours to support the World Resources Institute. WRI’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.

We encourage travelers to reduce waste and consumption wherever possible. We provide all travelers to Tunisia with canvas totes to limit the amount of plastic bags throughout the trip. Limiting water usage by actions like taking shorter showers and declining bedding changes can be very beneficial, specifically in the Tozeur region of Tunisia.

People

We start by focusing our tours during the off season and shoulder season in Tunisia, which creates economic stability in the tourism sector in the country. By booking directly through our partners, utilizing local guides, encouraging clients to buy local souvenirs, and staying at locally owned & operated accommodations, not only do our travelers have better experiences but as much money as possible stays within Tunisia.

To date, 90.31% of the full cost of all tours booked has gone directly back into the local economies.

Clients on this tour to Tunisia will be able to see the vibrancy of the Tunisian food and culture, both past and present, and be able to see and interact with locals throughout the tour. By experiencing locally-sourced foods from the areas around each location, not only do travelers receive better examples of the cuisine, but this cuts down on transportation emissions in bringing food to travelers.

We encourage travelers to purchase locally produced goods and utilizing local services such as souvenirs, crafts, meals, guides, and establishments. These all can enhance the traveler experience and have a positive impact in Tunisia. Specific experiential experiences like the market tour in Tozeur and pottery making in Sejnane will allow travelers to buy souvenirs directly from the source of production.

We require all travelers to respect the local customs and traditions of Tunisia. Being mindful of our actions abroad always results in a better experience while traveling.
