Traveling in Argentina with kids
Kathy Jarvis from our supplier Andean Trails happily took her two-year-old son into the Patagonian wilderness. Here, she explains why tailor-made tours are best for traveling in Argentina with kids: “Tailor made tours allow the schedule to be adapted to each family member. I took my son to Patagonia aged two and we stayed in the mountain refugios and trekked, rented a house and walked under giant monkey puzzle trees. We explored Bariloche and San Martin, used cable cars, local buses and self-drove too. We came up close to guanaco, skunk, pygmy owl, Patagonian fox and numerous birds including condors larger than my child. A little careful planning can adapt any tour to suit a particular family. Argentina is very civilised for all ages.”

“If you’ve got young children, then I recommend staying in higher-end hotels in Patagonia that have specialist guides who think about what’s on offer for children. So maybe on the first day they will pick something less challenging and see how the children are, then give them other options. They’ll organise different meal times, there might be a pool. For older kids into outdoor stuff, then Patagonia has whitewater rafting and kayaking. You can climb volcanoes and there’s hot springs. I’d really recommend that for teenagers who need to be kept active all the time.”
