History
History vacations suffer from an image problem. They conjure up a picture of a sedate older crowd crammed into coaches, ticking off a list of antiquity...
Tibet
The ‘Roof of the World’ has a mystic allure, and there is no question that Tibet is truly beautiful inside and out. But having been occupied by China ...

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION

We will operate as far as possible on this single trip to reduce our carbon footprint. Opportunities are more limited in this country, but we use our own transport and even offer the train back to Lhasa. We have selected hotels with good environmental policies where possible.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Hotels and lodges help in the provision of clean water, but we encourage our travelers to take life straws and water containers to ease the process and we ensure two litres per day are provided from boiled water sources. We therefore reduce the need for disposable plastic and waste.
If people need power to recharge phones or cameras, we encourage portable chargers rather than using the local power, which is solar generated and limited in supply.

We work with local accommodation and guides to ensure local Tibetan people gain from our visits where possible through our spend, but they also impart their respect for the environment and wildlife, which is fundamental to their nature. Similar to the Sherpa people in Nepal who descend from the Tibetan people, they are highly spiritual and worship the mountains and nature, it is more about us learning from them!

LOCAL ECONOMY

The guides are Tibetan nationals who have a natural association with the local people and knowledge of their history, culture and lifestyle which they share with visitors. They are local experts and have developed good links with the local village communities and people in the villages and Mountains of Tibet. Your guide will be with you from the start of the tour to its end and will introduce you to local people where possible.

These experiences are designed to offer greater cross cultural understanding between the local culture and the visitor, by promoting genuine contact within an enjoyable vacation experience. We are working with our local partner to deliver a unique set of enjoyable and inspiring cultural insights for the visitor. We hope you will come home refreshed, inspired and with memories and a greater understanding of another culture that may even have an influence on your way of living back home.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

You are welcomed in Lhasa and hosted on this visit by Tibetan people, who own the company that delivers this experience. They are proud of their country and knowledgeable about its history and beliefs. These hotels we use also employ local people and acquire local food produce for their restaurants.
Visitors contribute to the local economy through buying gifts and we ensure there is time to stop at the towns on the itinerary.
We include visit the temples and monasteries at places along the route to understand the faith and beliefs of the Tibetan people.
