Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

I am the only company selling Tasmania's cycling tours in the UK and Europe. The impact on the environment is minimal. All guests are encouraged to check the pouches of any animals found injured or dead on the roads due to traffic accidents and are provided with the SOS wildlife rescue line.

Overall, on the bicycle tours less mileage is covered and therefore less fuel consumed as on self drive tours. The support bus for the guided group tours has been converted to the Australia diesel-gas system, resulting in a dramatically reduced fuel consumption. Guests are encouraged to carry their own luggage to minimise the requirement for a support vehicle and although transport can be booked for an additional charge, a courier who is using the same route is used to avoid additional environmental impact. The office building has been modified to ensure minimal energy consumption. All guests receive a custom made comprehensive information pack covering extensive information about Tasmania, its wildlife and nature, and how to interact best with the locals. Only small groups are booked at any one time.

People

The cycle company used in this tour was founded in 2001 and was the first exclusively cycling-focussed tour operator in Tasmania. It is still family run, independent , locally based and small. It has been deliberately kept it this way to ensure personal service to every guest and uses only local, personally qualified accommodation and recommends experiences to ensure that the community benefits as much as possible. The itineraries are put together in great detail to ensure that the visitors experience as much as possible in the touring route and visit as many local operators and outlets as they can, with a particular focus on smaller operators and experiences that are not found in mainstream vacation brochures . The UK based company is the first of its kind to specialise in uniquely Tasmanian experiences and accommodation/tour providers and adheres to a strict policy of only promoting locally owned and run properties. The company gives a donation to Tasmanian Land Conservancy, a non for profit organisation that has been established to protect areas of wilderness and natural significance in Tasmania.
