Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The operator behind this trip is dedicated to implementing the environmental regulations as set by the Association of Arctic Cruise Operators (AECO).

They firmly believe that tourism should be carried out with maximum respect for the environment, traditional cultures and historic sites and as such they deploy safe, environmentally sound expeditions to the Arctic.

Of the ships that carry out this cruise they surpass the requirements of the Polar Code which have been adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The vessels are some of the most flexible, advanced and innovative of those available for exploring arctic waters. For example, one of the ships which operates this route uses LED lighting, steam heating, bio-degradable paints and lubricants, and state-of-the-art power management systems that keep fuel consumption and CO2 levels minimal. This means that as you sail through these pristine environments you can do so with the peace of mind that you are impacting them as little as possible.

People

We're proud to be a provider of vacations focused on responsible travel, working with local suppliers who share our dedication to responsible tourism - echoing our values of having a positive impact on the environment, conservation and local communities.

All local guides mentioned in our itineraries are paid a fair wage, from the crew on your Arctic cruise, to the team of experts on board, to the drivers used for your transfers.

All of our partner operators aim to instill a widened understanding of the region and to inspire you to become an environmental advocate for the Arctic environ.
We hope that all travelers will share their knowledge and experiences when they return home and continue to act as ambassadors for this region.
One of the many initiatives implemented by the company that runs this trip to benefit the local community is organising beach cleanups to remove plastics from Arctic waters and the coastline.

For example, in the summer of 2018 this operators and other members of AECO carried out 128 beach cleanups and removed over 40 tonnes of waste that could be harmful to the environment and wildlife.
