1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The lovely counytyside and the Dutch Fort in Galle

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Two weeks is enough

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes to the first question as tourism is good for the local economy. No to questions 2 and 3.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Overall good but marked down for poor.and slow sevice throughout. The infrastructure is very run down and tourists attaractions such as the Safaris are
poorly managed with too many jeeps allowed-in and appaling dirt roads.

Read the operator's response here:

Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback for your trip to Sri Lanka with us.

We are pleased that overall you considered your trip a good experience and felt that it has benefitted the local community. We too feel it is very important
to support countries that heavily rely on tourism, especially after not having many travelers come over in the past couple of years.

We were sorry to learn you felt the infrastructure was run down and we very much hope that Sri Lankan economy will make a quick recovery and address
these issues as the tourists are now being allowed to travel this beautiful island again.

It is a shame you haven’t felt you’d supported conservation in the areas you’d visited. Quite often the impact the travelers make without actually
participating in the conservation programmes is indirect, but it does make a difference too. Please rest assured that the fees that were paid for your visits to
the national parks, as well as activities provided for you there, have benefitted the conservation efforts of the sanctuaries directly. As to the environmental
impact your trip has made, while reducing the car journeys in Sri Lanka without sacrificing our customers comfort is not always possible, we have
increased a number of eco-style properties across the island to help our customers realise the difference they are making to the environment. We very
much hope you have enjoyed your stay at one of the eco-lodges near Yala National Park that we work with closely!

Thank you again for your feedback, Tom, and all your comments. We do hope that your journey across the beautiful island of Sri Lanka was memorable!

Warm regards, David

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The hike up Ella Rock

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Don’t waste any time in Colombo. Book hotels based upon recommendations if possible. There is a huge variety of quality at apparently the same standard. Old colonial is no longer necessarily the best.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

A mixture of all

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Brilliant!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

During this itinerary you visit Nuwara Eliya and Ella where you stay in colonial guesthouses and hotels. These types of buildings have been protected by tourism to the area and have been kept to their original style.

We also include a train journey in this itinerary from Nuwara Eliya to Ella which is a low-carbon way of traveling with minimal impact to the environment.

You also get to visit Yala National Park which is a protected area of land which is helping preserve the animals and wildlife that live in this area. We have chosen Yala as it is a responsible park and due to tourism is highly protected by the Sri Lankan government safeguarding the animals who reside within. Our guides and staff are trained on how best to protect the flora and fauna and our customers are also informed on this via our 'how to be a responsible traveler' document.

People

During this itinerary you stay with a local family in a homestay in Kandy where the family will make you feel at home and teach you how to cook traditional Sri Lankan dishes. This is a great support to the local families here as it gives them a steady income from tourism. Also, our drivers know the best places to stop for food/drinks/snacks and will stop at small places where the locals will profit from much needed income.

Our local partner also runs a lot of charity projects in Sri Lanka and supports many local communities. They have funded include providing food and rations to local charities, helping restore the homes of some of Sri Lanka's most needy, and paying for cancer drugs for patients at some local hospitals. In 2008, they provided emergency lights and installed lights at a girls home in Nugegoda. In 2013 they bought 40 new mattresses for an retirement home near Colombo. Other projects that they have funded include providing food and rations to local charities, helping restore the homes of some of Sri Lanka's most needy, and paying for cancer drugs for patients at some local hospitals.
