Read the operator's response here:
In such a remote and somewhat untouched world without any native or local populations the efforts to reduce environmental impacts or support conservation might not be immediately obvious. However, even just by booking this trip a proportion of the booking is a ‘CO2 and environmental investment’, which goes towards the support of number of projects. Recent projects funded on Svalbard including a herb garden at Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel, improved awareness of the Kapp Linne Nature Reserve as well as a litter removal project that involved 23 volunteers and across approximately 4.5 km of beaches they picked up around 1,100 kg of litter.

Because of this they add an additional charge to the cost of each booking, this environmental investment is donated in entirety to projects contributing to a sustainable future in Svalbard and supports the operators efforts to be climate neutral.Within this itinerary some of the lodges have received acknowledgement and accreditations for their environmental efforts. Firstly, Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen has obtained certification for their environmental efforts from Eco-lighthouse, which is Norway’s most widely used certification scheme which aims to create more environmentally friendly enterprises and safer work environments. They set out industry-specific requirements of which Basecamp Hotel has been independently assessed against and must undergo re-certification every three years along with submitting annual environmental reports.
