1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The game viewing at both safari lodges was excellent thanks to the high quality of the Rangers and Trackers. We have been on a number of safaris before but had not had more than fleeting views of leopards. On this trip we were lucky enough to see a large number of individual leopards at close quarters and for extended periods. We also saw packs of African Wild Dogs on 3 separate
occasions, which we had never been privileged to see before. This was all in addition to many sightings of The Big Five often near our safari lodges.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
If you haven't been on safari before be prepared for very early (5.30 a.m.) starts every day but it is well worth it because the animals are really active then. The laundry services are excellent, very speedy and included in the price on safari. This means that you can make do with much less luggage. Be aware that there are a lot of steps to negotiate to access the rooms and the beach at Bahia Mar.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. It provided good employment opportunities for local people and both Ulusaba and Bahia Mar supported local community projects.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
A thoroughly enjoyable and exciting experience.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We have put this itinerary together with a focus on ensuring you can experience two of the world's top vacation destinations. The properties are chosen not only because of the brilliant service and style but because they are in line with our ethos of responsible and sustainable travel.South Africa is working hard to ensure a great future for their tourism industry. The conservancies in the Greater Kruger ecosystem operate in a responsible and sustainable way with long term conservation at the heart of every action. We love to work with these private conservancies and reserves, where there are fewer vehicles around, and tourism has a much lower impact on the environment and its wildlife.
In Mozambique, protecting the oceans is a high priority and you will get the chance to get involved in environmental schemes to that are ensuring the marine life and beaches are unspoilt for generations to come.
People
Whilst we are always trying to ensure our guests experience the best properties and destinations possible, our ethos about responsible travel is extremely important to us.We have selected the properties on this itinerary with sustainable and responsible tourism in mind. In the Western Cape you will enjoy the region's food and wine whilst supporting local suppliers and traders. The hotels also make a huge effort to train and employ local staff.
We encourage all our travelers to research local customs and read your trip notes before you depart to ensure you are conscientious and respectful in a different culture. In most cases we strongly recommend that you do not give money to children beggars. If begging is a successful enterprise, parents are encouraged to forsake their children’s education in pursuit of this opportunity.
As a company we are founded in the roots of providing responsible and sustainable vacations. This means we seek to partner with local suppliers who provide fair wages, to use accommodation where community and environment are considered and to look at every opportunity for making our vacations as fair to local people and places as possible.
