1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The scenery and feeling we got in Skye and Glencoe

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Have walking shoes on, get some tick removal kit just in case. Weather is tough, be ready to adjust your clothing during the day (and multiple times)

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, I think it was well planned and respectful to locals and the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was a pleasure, with its ups and downs as expected. We have shared our concerns with the operator directly.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We are continually increasing our range of public transport vacations for those who actively choose low-carbon transport. We use our years of expertise with the timetables of boats and trains to ensure guests can access remote areas without the need for a car. We encourage travelers to use more sustainable methods of transport, and seek to reduce carbon emissions in this tour by ensuring that the majority of travel is by train.

This guided tour has been carefully-designed to allow you to explore much of Scotland by rail, traveling from Edinburgh to Blair Atholl, Pitlochry to Loch Carron via Inverness, Mallaig to Fort William and Spean Bridge to Glasgow by train.

This guided tour takes you beyond the end of the train lines, through the careful addition of short transfers and day-tours by mini coach to locations that cannot be accessed by rail, such as the Isle of Skye and Glencoe. Travel from Skye to Mallaig is via ferry.

The meals included in this tour are in these locally owned hotel restaurants. Each menu focuses on local produce and cuisine, with ingredients coming from in and around Scotland as much as possible, with fruit, vegetables and salads usually from the property’s own kitchen garden.

We are corporate members of the John Muir Trust, an organisation committed to protecting the Scottish Highlands and islands. We are also members of AITO, The Specialist Travel Association, and adhere to their strict code of conduct concerning sustainable and responsible travel.

We produce very little printed marketing material and utilise the internet and email marketing as our primary communication channels. Our preference is to provide our customers with tour documentation via an app rather than printed hard copy whenever possible. We ensure any leftover marketing materials are recycled.

People

Ever since the launch of our business in 2003, we have striven to promote and maintain the way of life in remote and often rural locations, encouraging our customers to explore off-the-beaten track and engage with local culture, and not simply sticking to the well-trodden tourist hotspots.

We go out of our way to build long-term relationships with locally-owned and managed businesses in order to provide an authentic experience in each destination. All transfers and tours are conducted by local people who share our values and commitment to sustainable travel. The tour at Attadale Gardens is conducted by the owner, giving guests a real insight into the history of the house and grounds.

This tour uses small, family-owned accommodation in Pitlochry, Plockton and Spean Bridge. Meals included on this trip are either in local restaurants or within the accommodation used, and use locally sourced produce as far as possible.

We directly employ a small team in Glasgow, who share and promote our values of environmental and sustainable responsibility at all times.
