Vacation information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on vacation.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

There were many moments, but kayaking at Vrango Island, Sweden was a highlight.Oh, forgot about staying in cabins in Gudvangen, Norway with a waterfall in view, was outstanding. Then from there, the Naeroyfjord cruise to Flam. What can I say? Too many memorable parts to choose just one.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

It can be physically challenging- a lot of walking- so pace yourself. It's well with it.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, we took public transportation when possible. We walked a lot. We stayed at comfortable, but not luxurious hotels, not big name ones.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I loved the combination of big cities and smaller countryside towns . So you could explore museums, but also the natural wonders of Scandinavia.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

When traveling through Scandinavia we use public transport where possible, which is the most sustainable way of moving around. On this trip we travel mostly by train, but we also take a public bus on the stretch between Gothenburg and Oslo. Not only is this a very comfortable way of traveling, this journey also follows a very scenic route and offers a great opportunity to strike up conversations with the local people.

All our leaders are passionate about responsible travel, so our messaging around the importance of environmental issues is always consistent. Our leaders make the effort to teach our passengers about recycling in Scandinavia, which is well ahead of the game in comparison to other European nations. We hope some of our passengers will take these ideas home with them to help improve the environment where they live.

We supply our customers with canvas bags to use throughout the trip and to encourage them to say no to plastic ones. We also suggest the use of refillable water bottles as tap water all over Scandinavia is drinkable.

On our trips we use locally owned and run businesses, such as hotels and restaurants. This way we are able to support the local Scandinavian economy instead of large international chains and corporations.

People

This trip is run entirely by our European Destination Management Company (or DMC) and they share our values when it comes to responsible travel. The trip is run by local leaders from the region, who are employed and paid in accordance with current industry standards. We also employ local guides where feasible, for instance in Copenhagen when we take a cycling tour around the city center and to the enclave of Christiania.

We make sure our small groups take nothing but memories (and photos!) and leave nothing but footprints. This small group tour has a maximum of 12 participants, meaning that we have a low impact on the communities we visit and are able to ensure that we don’t disrupt or contribute to the displacement of local people.

Our small groups also allows us to stay in family-run hotels and pensions that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to their limited size. We also support small restaurants and cafes.
