Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

There are approximately 1004 gorillas in the World, the few numbers of gorillas means that they are extremely rare and endangered. This tour expects so much from the tourists, Our driver guides will inform you of what to do and the don'ts during the Gorilla trekking adventure. Visitors are not allowed to consume any food or drinks while trekking.

However, over the years gorillas are increasing because of the principles installed to the tourists by tour operators while visiting these national parks and how each person is responsible for taking care of the gorillas. Only 8 tourists are allowed to visit 1 habituated gorilla family for 1 hour per day. A distance of 7 meters must be kept when seeing gorillas and the flash light must be off while taking photographs. Those few tourists are accompanied by trackers and rangers giving information for excellent viewing of gorillas. Visitors usually are given packed lunch and drinking water but all litter should be brought back to the visitor center for proper disposal.

We encourage our travelers to travel in smaller groups during their trips to various destinations. Handling bigger groups is not easy and they cause stress to the environment

All our driver guides are required to keep by the trails so as to avoid distraction and interferences with the wildlife. Our guides are also discouraged from taking bribes to go off the road for good photos and better views, we encourage clients to let the animals come to them without destroying their habitats.

Everyone should keep in mind that the wild animals are not like those found in the theme parks, they are not tamed, hence should take extra precautions not to offend them. We ask our clients never buy products made from endangered species.

People

Education on the gorillas and natural environment is done to educate both visitors and local people to realize that success of tourism business depends on the gorillas and their habitat. For instance community conservation workshops, seminars are conducted every month in communities and school children are taken on tours to visit the forest such as Bwindi and learn about the importance to protect them.

Gorilla trekking has also aided in improving the living standards of the communities around. It has provided employment to the women and men of the society such as local guides, suppliers to the lodges around the park, security to the park and properties near the park. Also, the permit fee collected from the gorilla trekking is partly given back to the community for building schools, health centers, clean water, tree planting and better homes for the people.

The sole purpose is to bring people from different cultures together, through village visits. The local village visits are included in itineraries so as to promote the communities visited both economically and socially. Most suppliers source their products from the locals around and also help to improve the living standards of the locals by engaging them in agricultural activities such as organic farming, by use manure from the Masai cattle, employing local labour for supply of water and tour guiding clients as they already have knowledge of the environment.

Providing new sources of income through buying of local souvenirs from the cultural communities and also employing locals to be our driver guides since they are the most knowledgeable about the destinations’ culture and other company staff. This ensures easy understanding between the clients and the local communities visited during the tour.

We inform our clients of customs of each country and respect for artefact such as not being tempted to buy ivory, tortoise shells, elephant hair bracelets or any products derived from rhino, elephant or big cat. We ask our clients to always have a free and open mind throughout their tour to avoid judgment and stereotyping cultures
