Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We collect all the waste while on safari and dispose it off properly. We do not allow to dispose of waste in the communities and the national parks we visit on this tour. This ensures that we keep the places we visit as clean as we find them. The communities and parks are challenged by the much waste generated by visitors in their area. There are rules on wildlife watching put in place by the Rwanda Development Board, the various NGO involved in research of mountain gorillas and Africa Parks which manages Nyungwe forest. We ensure our clients receive the right information on how to conduct themselves in the forest before the safari and we emphasise why it is important that they adhere to the information.
The lodges and hotels we partner with are careful to use water sparingly and clients are briefed on the same when they arrive. This to discourage waste of water.
People
We include a visit to local projects that are involved in cultural preservation and in turn providing employment for locals. This encourages locals to get involved in conservation of wildlife, recruits former poachers who then stop poaching and join conservation. The incomes earned also go further in public needs of the community like schools, affordable loans, hospitals etc. The Gorilla guardians village is one such project – working with former poachers who nowWe encourage the clients to purchase souvenirs from the locals at the different craft shops in the different centers we visit. The crafts are provided by artisans who do this in addition to agriculture. They use mostly raw materials to make these crafts and different people on the value chain benefit – right from the owners of the raw materials, the artisans who make the crafts, the people working in the craft shops and lastly the owners of craft shops who might be different from those working.
