Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Most of the accommodation is located in proximity to the town centers and the UNESCO historic site we visit, which reduces further the need for carbon producing transfer vehicles on the trip.In places as Sibiu, Sighisoara, Cluj we are doing walking tours as we are encouraging low carbon activities.
Our standard group size is a maximum of 8 people. This ensures that we keep our footprint as light as possible and community and nature disturbance is minimized.
Small group sizes also ensure that we can spend more time with each participant to explain the cultural sensitivities and the history of each area we visit. It also ensures that we do not overwhelm or intimidate any of our hosts or people we meet on the way.
Each participant will be provided with a traveler guide outlining ways in which water, energy and waste usage can all be reduced such as through the reuse of water bottles, conservation of energy by switching off lights/plugs during the day and reduction of waste through plastic recycling. We will provide participants with the ability to refill their water bottles as opposed to purchasing individual bottles in order to reduce waste.
People
During this trip we stay in accommodation that is locally run (sometimes family run) and staffed with people from the surrounding areas, which has a positive effect on employment levels and economy in the region. The majority of lunches and dinners are not included on this trip, this benefits the local economy; clients can enjoy various local authentic dishes and at the same time support numerous local businesses.
The entry fees will help maintain and even restore the precious tourist attractions visited throughout the tour and guides will help explain local customs to our guests, for example when in a museum first ask if it is permitted to take photographs. Many museums or heritage sites also ask for a small fee if you use your camera or video-recorder.
We are committed to working for a better community for all, in particular in the areas visited by or customers. We are leaders in developing tourism in remote areas of Romania, bringing a source of income with a steady flow of responsible tourists. In particular we have been leaders in bringing a source of income through tourism to some of the more remote parts of Romania. It is important to balance the impact of visitors with the effect on local communities and we strive to do this in a responsible way.
Good relationships have been established with a range of local "suppliers" ranging from those providing accommodation to artisans making products with historical significance. We are trying to open up new areas of tourism in Romania by encouraging small groups, couples mainly, to visit some the more remote areas where the income they provide can make a real difference.
