1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The people in the Tigak region were universally charming and friendly and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and that our needs were
met. It was a real plesure to visit a country where there are so few tourists and made to feel so welcome.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be aware that you actually only kayak for 4 of the 9 days. Pack plenty of mosquito repellant.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Very much so. Probably the most enjoyable aspect of the whole trip was the fact that our guides made very good use of their local connections and we felt that
we were giving back to local communities and not just exploiting them- and the locals we spoke to felt the same.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I have only given the trip a 2 star rating because I felt there were a number of things that could be improved and also because calling it a 9 day sea kayaking
experience is highly misleading given that you only actually paddle for 4 days.

Hi Jane
Many thanks for you review. Reading it I see that overall you did the love kayaking part of the trip, which we are pleased with. Papua New Guinea is not the easiest destination for traveling and for that reason, rather than asking clients to make their own way to the start of the remote kayaking here, the trip duration includes the travel there and back. Thus it is book-ended, firstly 1 nights in Port Moresby at the start and the end and then 1 night at Nusa Island retreat on day 2 and day 8 within that to allow for domestic flights. We have reviewed the trip and we reckon we could add one more paddling day when you first arrive at Nusa Island. The day to day itineary does clearly state how many days are on the water, however we have now added under trip duration (9 days trip - and in brackets we are highlightin 4 days actually kayaking). I hope this will ensure that is clearer in the future. All the best Laurenne

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We have a social, cultural and environmental conscience! It is vitally important that travel has a positive impact on the social, cultural and environmental aspects of the places we visit. We ensure that when you visit places with us, your presence will help those that live there, that their culture will be respected and that the environment at the very least will not be harmed.

Environmental Policy
There are many aspects to the issue of the environmental impact of travel. Flying to the destination, accommodation, food preparation and human waste control. Each of these is covered either directly by our own environmental policy.

While on expedition we will offset all your carbon emissions. We try to use eco friendly accommodation where possible. Food is bought and prepared locally. We try to use fresh produce as much as possible. All non biodegradable material is packed and brought back to main metropolitan centers for correct disposal.

Human waste is a major problem when traveling. It can impact on the environment directly. We attempt to dispose of this waste as effectively and sensitively as possible. We will inform you on how you can help with this goal. We are currently looking to install eco toilets where appropriate in PNG.

Accommodation
While many of our expeditions use tents to accommodate clients, ourother forms of accommodation – hotels and guest houses are always clean and comfortable. On this expedition we use tents and the best eco-friendly hotel in Kavieng. The process of eco-friendly lodgings is a slow one in PNG, however we encourages those establishments that recycle and obtain power through wind or the sun. We try to use these places as much as possible and continually reinforce this to all our local contacts.
