Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This trip includes trekking for several days through Pakistan, helping reduce the environment impact through travel. Some of the nights, from days 6-9 are spent at local campsites with locally-sourced food served. We work with the policy of ‘Take nothing but memories, Leave nothing but footprints’. This means that we do not leave any foreign materials or waste in our trail and we work carefully with travelers to eliminate waste management and to be mindful of the scarce resources such as water. In particular this trip supports a community-led project in the Hunza Valley which aims to provide safe drinking-water in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. By helping support this project we can help ensure communities have access to fresh water using the natural mountain resources.
Finally, we are very proud to have partnered with Water-To-Go, specialists in personal and expedition water purification, instantly, and on-demand. Their unique, 350L water bottles incorporate advanced filtration technology to convert even the dirtiest water to drinking water as you fill up.
Being able to produce safe drinking water from sources off the beaten track, of sometimes dubious quality, offers incredible benefits to our adventure travelers and eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. We subsidise this product to make it more accessible to you.
People
This trip includes a number of cultural experiences which also give back to the communities we visit. Notably on Day 10 we visit many of the small villages and settlements that dot the valley floor and hillsides. The Kalash are one of the last 'pagan' communities left in Pakistan and South Asia. You will learn about their local way of life, different from the rest of Pakistan's population and are supposed descendants of Alexander the Great. Other itinerary highlights include exploring the Swat Valley and the villages that occupy it. You will visit archaeological sites as well as the Swat Museum ensuring money goes back into protecting the heritage of the valley. The tour also includes a local guide and we use a local operator to sustain the local welfare of small businesses in Pakistan. Our guide will educate our travelers on the traditions of Pakistan ensuring tourism is conducted in a responsible manner, adhering to the local customs of the country.
