Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

CARBON REDUCTIONWe endeavour to minimise our carbon footprint on all of our itineraries. Carbon usage is always disclosed in itineraries so guests can make an informed decision about usage. We also aim to work with properties who make a conscious effort to use renuable resources. Jicaro Lodge for instance filters all of it’s own water, does not use air conditioning and uses solar energy for all cooking on the island.
Jicaro Built entirely from timber reclaimed from trees blown down by Hurricane Felix, the buildings and furniture at Jicaro Island are made of tropical hardwoods — which have FSC / Rainforest Alliance Wood Certification
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Morgan’s Rock is located on a 4,446-acre farm of which 1,976 acres are conserved primary forest and the remaining 2,470 acres have been planted with 1.5 million timber and fruit trees in order to recreate a natural habitat for many species that were endangered.
Recycling is fairly new in Nicargua but by educating local schools and communities we’re having a positive impact on the local area. Plaza Colon for example sponsors an environmental education program in a local public school in Granada (Escuela Dezamber) by giving recycling stations and trees plantations, they have provided 1000 trees to be planted at the bottom of Mombacho Volcano.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYWe proudly support Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows clients to make a lasting impact in the local community. The donations from our guests support dozens of children through a prevention program, which aims to extract children from situations of risk and vulnerability and break away from poverty.
All of the guides we work with are locally sourced and trained. Throughout this itinerary there are opportunities to visit craft markets, local artisans, small locally run restaurants all of which source their food locally, to ensure that money spent through tourism goes straight back into the local community. We work hand in hand with rural cooperatives in order to offer authentic packages and benefit the communities with complementary income.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We’re proud to say that our supplier operates an equal opportunity policy and implements training and talks to ensure that all employees know their rights. Local projects provide opportunities for marginalised members of the community offering a chance of a better life.
