Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We know the wildlife of Namibia very well and are committed to its protection and conservation. Damaraland is home to a number of desert-adapted animals, as well as a small number of endemic or near-endemic species and sub-species, such as the Etendeka round-eared sengi. This means that the biomass in this area is supremely valuable and must be treated with great care. The Etosha ecosystem is home to many, many species across a variety of habitats and this nuance is something we are always keen to draw out when visiting Etosha with clients. However, Etosha is visited by large numbers of tourists, meaning that the ecosystem is constantly under stress - we do all we can to limit our impact on the environment when visiting this excellent national park. Khaudum, Bwabwata and Nkasa Rupara support populations of wildlife not found anywhere else in Namibia, including roan, sable, red lechwe, sitatunga, buffalo and African wild dog, making these areas extremely valuable indeed.

We ask clients to be considerate of water usage wherever possible, especially in Etosha, Damaraland and Khaudum, where water levels are typically low in the dry season. We ask clients to limit their use of water when washing, especially when camping in remote areas, and water should never be used for superfluous reasons.

People

We only use a small number of local suppliers in Namibia, and we insist that they employ Namibian people to ensure that our visit provides a genuine benefit to our Namibian cooks, guides and housekeeping staff. It is vital to our mission that local people see a benefit derived from ecotourism, and will therefore see value in the ecosystems we visit and the wildlife we travel to see. We encourage clients to take up a number of optional activities that employ local people, including night drives in Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni.

We offer clients a number of opportunities to interact with local communities and support them. This includes the option to visit a market in Vingerklip, the included visit to the San Living Museum in Tsumkwe and the chance to visit local communities around Palmwag. Gratuities are encouraged for all local people who help to make our clients' stay a memorable one.
