1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Myanmar is still one of those countries that are off-the-beaten-track. In some ways and in the best sense, it was like stepping back into the 19th century, into another time and another world. From Mandalay, the city name itself echoes its poetic charm, to Yangon, we travelled through a rich and varied landscape. Every day provided its own unique interest. Of special interest to me was the wide variety of trees everywhere, as I am a tree lover. Overall, very satisfied with this exotic experience.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Travel light, bring dollars, money goes a long way here. Make sure the bills are clean, without any stamps, and as new as possible. It will affect the exchange rate and in some cases, they will refuse the bills if they are too old or wrinkled.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely, case in point was the lunch that we had in the middle on Lake Inle in a private house on stilts where I actually went into the kitchen with grandma and cooked my own noodles, after having eaten her vegetable tempura and dumplings. The food, the views from the hour porch, and the overall ambiance was stunning, an unforgettable experience.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

This vacation was totally unique, the ten-days was the perfect getaway from work, just what I needed. We spent an extra day in Mandalay at the start ad two days in Yangon at the finish to top off the experience. We were sorry to leave which kinda says it all. Kudos, by the way, to the local tour group, whose guides were charming, fluent in English, and quite knowledgeable. They even laughed at my jokes, God love them.

This country is simply gorgeous... You feel suspended between legend and reality! The locals are special people, always ready to welcome you with a smile. It's still a country unknown to the big tourism, but I hope more and  more people will decide to discover this amazing country.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

I would suggest to be ready to discover a new and simple way to live. A lot of legends mixed with a smiling reality.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I have been at lunch in a beautiful house on stilts and the couple of owners have been so lovely! The lunch was delicious, so I am happy I could benefit them.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

10 days Myanmar tour with Asian tour has been an amazing experience! My guides were really careful to help me and show me everything this beautiful land offers.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

This program is crafted in a way that is environmentally, culturally and socially responsible. As we know, “Flying” is one of the fastest growing sources of CO2, we include only one essential air travel in this program. Travel by land and water transport instead of flights, passengers can taste more deeply to natural beauties, scenery, villages, ways of life, local culture and also have more chance to interact with local people whilst maintaining and/or improving the environment.
We design this tour to ensure every traveler has authentic interactions with local people, businesses, transportation, and food and drink. All our tours and activities are run by local experts, who are trained on initiatives of Sustainability Management and Responsible Travel practices. We also educate local community and raise awareness about the environmental issues and responsible behavior.
We distribute useful information sheet to our passengers which provides tips to travelers on best practices while traveling (codes of conduct / guidelines for sensitive excursions or activities). And well inform to our clients about sustainable offers such as sustainable accommodations and excursions, activities etc..
Here below are some points of this small group focus on environmental sustainability and improvement :
- Less air travel program for environmental sustainability.
- River journey up the Irrawaddy River from Mandalay to the riverside village of Mingun, enjoying the picturesque scenery of this river and the lifestyles of the local people who live and work on these waters. Unlike Amarapura, Mingun was not a royal capital yet has many interesting sites to see. The entry fee we pay in this area is used for maintaining the area and environment.
- In Monywa, cross the Chindwin River by ferry and proceed to Po Win Taung by local open-air jeep. This extraordinary complex consists of 947 sandstone caves dug out of the hills and contains what is considered by archaeologists to be the richest collection of mural paintings and Buddhist statues in Southeast Asia. We make donations and co-operations with local authorities for sustainability of sandstone caves, mural paintings and the area.
- In Bagan area, visit a rural, locally-owned toddy-palm climber’s hut to see how to tap toddy wine from the fronds, toddy factory and road-side shop. Buying products here supports the local economy and preserves the local environment.
- Cooking class in Inle Lake, conducted by local people of the area, uses locally-sourced products, sustaining the environment and contributing to the local economy.
- Yangon Heritage Walk highlights the historical importance of the colonial-era heritage buildings and the need for their preservation.

Furthermore, our trips contribute to diversify the local economies, to give employment to local communities as well as motivations for younger people.
