5 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The overall sense of Mauritius we gained through the variety of people, backgrounds, culture, history and wildlife we experienced. The first day encountering the giant tortoises on Ile aux Aigrettes was awesome as was watching the flying foxes soar and glide in the Bambous Virieux valley.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Before booking, say if you are unsure whether a specific activity will suit you. Our trip was to mark our 40th wedding anniversary and one of our activities was adjusted to suit our capabilities. The roads are good so enjoy getting about in your hire car. It affords the opportunity to explore independently and you need it to reach the activity locations. Make sure you know when you need to leave your accommodation in order to reach an activity location on time so you can arrange for an early breakfast.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. We were impressed how many of the activity providers were Mauritians who had set up in business 2 or 3 years ago offering an alternative to wholly resort based vacations. We got a sense of the work of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation right at the start, we were enjoined to use reef friendly sunscreen, and various of the places we stayed and ate had a light environmental footprint.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Truly excellent. A really good opportunity to meet locals, learn quite a lot about the country, and experience its varied nature, as well as having time to relax and appreciate the warmth and the sea.

Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
The eco-tents you will stay in on the East run with power & water provided from natural sources and meals are a 100% vegetarian, mostly sourced from the organic garden. The tents are built in harmony with nature, easily moveable and designed to leave no trace behind. Your Guest Houses use furniture from upcycled woods and are decorated by local artists, offering an authentic feel of Mauritian art and crafts. All of our tours and excursions are non-motorized, proposing eco-conscious alternatives to commercial boat trips and day-tours by car; we bring our travelers on offbeat adventures to discover Mauritius' secret gems by sea-kayaking, mountain biking, walking tours and hikes.
Our tours and excursions happen either in exclusivity or in small groups of
maximum 6 people, to minimize the impact on the environment while maximizing safety and interaction with local guides.
We are committed to defend animal welfare, discarding activities that deprive animals from their natural rights or are invasive to their natural habitats, such as:
- the walk with lions and the crocodile park
- the overcrowded "swim with dolphins"
- the underwater walk and submarine, which damage greatly the coral reef
Our hikes & treks excursions include individual cleaning kits (in collaboration with "My Green Trip" NGO) for travelers to proactively help us clean-up debris left behind in nature. When possible, the collected trash is deposited in the segregated bins of "Mission Verte" local NGO for recycling purposes.
Our trusted partners for scuba diving promote the use of biodegradable and reef-friendly sunscreens, by including them free of charge in their excursions or by selling them at their shops.
All of our nature-based excursions aim to raise awareness of the places' flora and fauna and its relevance to the natural and social environments, ranging from rainforest (Black River National Park) to coral reefs (scuba diving) and beach & coastal forests (South Coastal trek).

We are committed to offer authentic vacation products with a direct link to Mauritian culture, heritage or history. We support & empower small to medium businesses, set up independently and run by the local community, such as the two family-run Guest Houses and the two locally owned Eco-Lodges in this itinerary.
All of our tours and excursions are led by certified and licensed local guides from the areas visited.
Our proposed tours and excursions leak financially to the local community,
creating jobs or alternative revenue streams for those who need it most (such as the walking tour of Poudre d'Or and the meal preparation at Rosemonde's home).
Travelers are advised, before their cultural immersions, of the cultural norms, dress codes and formalities to follow to act respectfully within places of worship or ethnic minorities.
Our itinerary includes a the stay in a small village (Guest House on the West) to buy authentic and handmade souvenirs, eco-conscious crafts and fair-trade products.
Our local team will be in touch with you via WhatsApp to advise you on our favorite family-run Restaurants to eat authentic Mauritian meals, as well as farms and markets to buy local organic produce.
