Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

As adventure travelers we relish and celebrate the diversity of all corners of the world, along with acknowledging our obligation to protect the environments that we explore. Our aim is to tread lightly, designing and operating vacations which maximise the positive effects of tourism on local economies, cultures and the environment whilst minimising any negative impacts. We aim to engage all our customers in utilising the potential of tourism as a tool to aid sustainable development. We believe that responsible travelers are always welcome the world over.

We travel in small groups (max 3-5 families) so have a minimal impact on the environment as we go.

We have a foundation that collects the funds that you donate to us to support our projects. All our customers are invited to make a £1 per person contribution to the foundation at the time of booking. We will match every contribution that you make with our own £1. Every quarter all contributors are invited to vote on a shortlist of nominated projects – so it really is YOUR foundation

People

We work hand in hand on this itinerary with our local operator, who employs on our behalf local group leaders, drivers and the local site guides we use throughout the itinerary, creating vital local employment. We stay in locally owned guesthouses and hotels, eat in local restaurants and source supplies en route as we travel, ensuring that as much of the money as possible spent operating this trip finds its ways back into the local communities which we are visiting.

We only use local group leaders whom we regularly train and work closely with to ensure that they are fully engaged in ensuring travelers not only have a fantastic vacation, but also that they have the tools to help our passengers understand the nature of the environment we are passing through and know how to minimise the impact that they have. This includes everything from where to buy souvenirs and supplies locally to taking all rubbish with you, leaving nothing behind. Not only does more of the money we generate stay within the communities we are visiting, but the specialised local knowledge and expertise of our guides gives our travelers a unique experience.

Throughout this trip, the group will travel on local buses, trains, boats and trams, plus two nights are spent at a ryokan - Japanese style accommodation with Japanese style food and thus a very traditional experience! There’s the chance to visit traditional markets in Tokyo, and an overnight stay in a temple provides direct income to the monks who run it; an important financial resource for those involved, that provides us with a unique experience.
