1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?


It is very difficult to choose the most memorable/exciting part of the vacation, the whole fortnight was fantastic. The scenery is stunning, the wildlife amazing, all the boat crew were great, the atmosphere on board warm and friendly, the food was fabulous, the activities well organised. If we had to choose, we particularly enjoyed kayaking in Misty Fiord. We were lucky with the weather, the water was like a mirror and the scenery particularly dramatic. The fantail at the back of the Wilderness Discoverer makes it very easy getting in and out of the kayaks.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?


GO! There were more passengers on board who had Uncruised before than who hadn't. The packing list on Uncruise's website is comprehensive and helpful. The main query we had was whether we needed wellies (Alaskan Sneakers) or not, as we have never liked walking far in wellies. We didn't use our wellies much - they were useful for bushwhacking, but in our experience were not necessary when wet landing from a skiff to a beach. However, we would advise taking wellies in case the weather isn't great. Alaska has had an unusually warm dry summer so we didn't come across much mud. Our guides seemed to live in their Alaskan sneakers!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?


We were told all the food was sourced locally. We were supplied with marine safe shampoo and body wash. Nothing went overboard. We met local park rangers and the guides gave talks on local flora, fauna, geology and history most evenings. We always kept an appropriate distance from the wildlife, all efforts were made not to disturb their natural behaviour. The engines were cut when watching marine mammals, the wildlife was never hassled or chased.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?


We had 2 fantastic weeks on the Wilderness Discoverer, the first week cruising the fiords of Alaska, the second week cruising the Inside Passage to Seattle.
It was everything we hoped for and more.

The Passenger Vessel Association (PVA) recognizes the vessels owners as a member of its Green WATERS Program for their dedication and commitment toward a cleaner, greener marine environment. Members of WATERS (We Are Taking Environmental Responsibility/Stewardship) around the U.S. have taken it upon themselves to reduce their environmental impact in a variety of ways, including reducing fuel consumption, conserving potable water, using less harmful chemicals near waterways, conserving energy, and working with their employees to create a greener workplace.
