1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

I can honestly say that we enjoyed it all. The quality of guiding and activities was good. Our local tour leader did a great job and was responsive to our needs - the structure and organisation enabled us to pack a lot in to the 14 days. It is really hard to pick favourites but Hong Kong was probably the least favourite part and we would have preferred more time elsewhere. The cultural/historical visits were enough to inform and illuminate without becoming too lengthy for children. The visit to the school in Xian was really lovely. My daughter particularly liked the bike ride in Yangshou, my husband loved the cormorant fishing. Cooking school and Tai Chi were fun.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Ask to book the optional evening river trip with cormorant fishing at Yangshou (after the bike ride) - not shown on the itinerary but our local guide organised it for us because we asked if we could fit in a river trip. 70 minutes on river at a quiet time of the day, meal in local family house followed by cormorant fishing demonstration - a chance to see something thrilling and unique with the added bonus of water buffalo wallowing in the river.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, local people - guiding, trips and activities were run by local individuals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A fascinating country and really interesting trip on many levels. We liked the variety and overall mix of activities, culture, history, modes of travel and wildlife. It would have been nice to stay in the countryside or a quieter spot in Yangshou - downtown Yangshou is a tourist hot spot, busy with plenty of people wanting the noisy and somewhat tacky experience offered in and around west street. It was interesting in its own way but the surrounding rural areas were more in keeping with what was promoted in the trip notes and staying in the countryside would have been welcome as all the other stops on this tour are in big cities. It would also be good if the river trip and cormorant fishing were built in to future tours as this is a unique feature of the Guilin area.
