1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Everything was exciting about this vacation, which exceeded my expectations by many orders of magnitude! I'll pick out some highlights: - The very first tiger (out of 16 total!) - a stunning female that walked straight towards us and we spent some time with in Bandhavgarh on the very first drive - Spending a lot of time with a female leopard with two cubs, as well as a mating pair of leopards in a tree (didn't see them actually mate though), all on the same drive in Pench - A family of Asiatic wild dogs (a pair with 3 pups) playing around our car - also in Pench (same drive as the leopards!) - An incredible amount of birds species (I'm a birder - and if you are, Saurabh will have your needs met, believe me!) - I photographed 150 species in total (observed 170) - the boat safari in Satpura was a highlight for both bird count and photography - Fantastic night drives: One in Kanha (with leopard, palm civet, and a rare flying squirrel!), one in Pench - looking for wolves (saw one briefly), and two in Satpura (with a massive male tiger, sloth bear, jungle cat and the incredibly rare rusty-spotted cat). Night drives in Kanha and Pench have to be ordered and paid for separately, but they are very exciting and you see stuff you won't see otherwise. - Saurabh as a guide and tour leader was a highlight of itself. Extremely knowledgeable, caters to ones needs, a great photographer (if you want to learn a trick or two), funny, and an all-round great guy - Have to mention the accommodations as well, which was great! Loved all of them, but Shergarh in Kanha was special to me (the people working there and the beautiful place itself), and Reni Pani at Satpura at the end was just magnificent and perfect to end the trip on a high note. - Oh, and the food! I loved the food (but I just love Indian food - so I was in heaven)2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
I have plenty of experience working with wildlife in Africa, so I know first hand how much luck plays a part when it comes to wildlife viewing,. I'd advice you to do this trip with an open mind and without too many expectations of what you should or should not see. Then let Saurabh do his job, and you will likely get an incredible experience with plenty of great sightings anyway, as he really knows what he's doing. The drivers and guides he picks are people he knows very well and trust will do a great job if he isn't with you, and I can tell you from experience that they do an incredible job as well! You would be very unlucky not to see tiger, and most will probably have great observations with tigers getting quite close, but nothing is guaranteed. Leopards are always pure luck, as are many of the other predators. I really lucked out on this trip, and got the see way more than I expected! No matter what you get to see, you'll likely see lots of stuff you have never seen before (especially if you are new to India). So just enjoy whatever comes your way! Here's a list of additional tips: - Do not worry about accommodations, especially if they change, as Saurabh will always pick a place run by people he knows and trusts, and with high standards (at least to me). - If you want additional safari drives (such as the night drives in Kanha and Pench mentioned earlier), you'll have to pay for those as extras. I did that while on the trip - with no decisions made beforehand. - You might need quite a bit of additional money for various small things along the way, so be sure to have a decent amount with you. There will be stops to take out money at ATMs between the parks. Money will be spent on tips for guides, drivers and staff at the places you stay (Saurabh will help you with this). I had set aside an additional £1000 for the trip, and most of it was gone by the end. A lot went to tipping, but a few lump sums went into the extra safaris, a new suitcase (the zipper on mine broke), and me needing to book and pay for a new domestic flight (as I had mixed up the flight times at the end of the trip).3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Saurabh is a local guide, and we were always catered by local people. Most of them coming from the areas around the parks. One thing that became evident to me during my stay, was how well the parks are run (no single-use plastic allowed in the parks for instance) and how great they have been at including the villages and locals near and around the parks. They seem to live with a respect and understanding of nature and the wildlife, and many have jobs within the parks themselves. There is human-wildlife conflict (unavoidable with so many people encroaching on these parks), but to a much lesser degree than what could have been if it hadn't been for the seemingly great collaboration between the wildlife authorities, the parks, and the local villagers and farmers. The money from safaris in these parks directly goes into this collaboration, which then benefits the conservation of wildlife and the local people at the same time. There's also a limit on how many vehicles are allowed each day, to reduce the footprints of tourism.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This vacation was simply spectacular in every single way! If you can't tell by my words already. For anyone with a dream of wild tigers and Indian wildlife, this is the trip to do, and I highly doubt you'll be disappointed. I really want to do this again at a later stage, and I probably will. Another two weeks with Saurabh, seeing some of the staff again from the lodges, the great food, and the fantastic wildlife. It just sounds two great not to do at least once more! Maybe this time I won't take 35,000 photos? Do not take 35,000 photos if you want a life afterwards.... But before I do this trip again, at some point in the nearish future, I will be doing a snow leopard safari with Saurabh (which is another one of his many vacation trips). 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The whole trip was full of memorable moments, beginning with the first safari that ended with a close view of a tiger that we watched for some time as she woke and finally ambled off. There were numerous other tiger sightings, the best being when our vehicle was on its own. Each park was different and full of interesting wildlife, birds and trees. Other highlights for me were a few guided walks, spectacular sunsets and the boat trip in Satpura.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Let go of time, enjoy the long drives between the parks and make the most of every outing even if you don't spot a tiger. Have lots of small denomination rupees to hand for drivers, guides and naturalists. Eat the Indian food which was excellent at all the lodges.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The parks that we visited seemed to be run very efficiently with emphasis on conserving a good balance of wildlife and numbers of permits issued in a day. The tiger population is increasing by the year. The local communities in the buffer zones appeared to be invested in their neighbouring parks and are reportedly active in reporting any possible poaching activity. The lodges were staffed by local people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Saurabh was with us throughout and as well as organising skilful drivers, great lodges and help with bookings, coordinating journeys and flights, he is extremely knowledgeable and was really good company. Take a good camera and binoculars. Be prepared to be off-grid - WiFi is very patchy or non-existent - but there is lots to see instead of a screen! 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
We saw 12 tigers through the 4 Tiger Reserves! The most memorable was what we called our National Geographic Moment. We watched as a mated pair of jackals skillfully lured a tigress away from their den. At one point we thought we lost half of Team Jackal but in the end the jackals prevailed and the tigress decided to take a rest in a gully. Unforgettable!2. We were very fortunate to have booked this trip during the dry season because it was much easier to see the animals without a lot of leaf cover. Also, be sure to visit serval parks. The topography is different and interesting to see and it gives you a greater chance of seeing animals.3. Yes. The places we stayed employed local people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Seeing all the wildlife and the Taj Mahal. Seeing tigers in the wild was amazing as was seeing a leopard whilst we were at Pench. Hard to say one thing as it all was an amazing experience. Also the warm and friendly welcome and hospitality we received throughout our stay left lasting memories that we tell to everyone.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Talk to Saurabh and tell him what you would like to do. He will do everything else for you. For the tiger safaris, it IS COLD in the mornings when you get up for 0600. Take warm clothes with you.3. Yes we do, everywhere we stayed it was local individuals who were working there and providing the guides, drivers, waiters, cooks and helpers in the accommodation and at the nature reserves. The accommodation was all environmentally powered and as we were during the winter there was environmental heating.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
We have recommended both Responsible Travel and the operator to everyone we have met back in the UK. Anyone we hear thinking about going to India we tell to contact both companies and also the amazing trip we had whilst there. Difficult to pick one out of many. A few that come to mind were the Taj Mahal at dawn, our first tiger encounter with a female and two cubs, a sloth bear with two cubs and a Malabar Pied Hornbill.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Build in time for reflection where you can just amble around looking at the small things, enjoying time and space to yourself. The two drives per day and long journeys between lodges can take their toll. Remember it can be cold on early morning and evening drives. Come equipped with a number of layers, hats, gloves and scarves so you can be comfortable at 3 degrees or 23 degrees C. Weather patterns are changing and rain can now fall in the dry season. A pair of waterproof trousers and a rain jacket are a useful insurance policy.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Three of the lodges were owner operated and had obvious ties to their local villages with most of the staff locally recruited and trained. The tiger conservation programme which covers the whole gamut from management of grassland and forest, education of the local community and the education of visitors is and will have a major positive impact.4. 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The most memorable part of my vacation was where my Satpura camping experience was ruined by the local operator Reni Pani Lodge. We had paid a large amount for this experience. Due to situations out of their control, the location was changed. They did not notify us until 3 hours before we were to leave. We asked to cancel shortly after that as the location was one we had already visited. We were told it was too late, even though they had known the night before. The travel agent nor the lodge would take any responsibility for how poorly the situation was managed. It is a shame as other than this, it was a great vacation filled with wildlife. However when something went wrong, they were unable to handle it. This is my lasting memory.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Yes, there was a lot of local guides.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
The vacation itself was wonderful. The hospitality of local operator and Reni Pani Lodge were great until a problem happened, and they were unable to deal with it professionally. It is a shame, as the potential is there, however I will never recommend them. I will be back again, and will source out another company. Thank you for the review.
We had to change the camping location because a tigress had come into the area which had mauled a local villager. Proof of this incident was shown to you by the lodge manager in the form of local news reporting. Information about the incident was passed to the lodge night before your camping but only had an official word from the rangers the next day when you were in the park. For the safety of guests and camping team, the camping site was closed by the department and shifted to another camping site. Park rules and regulations are governed by the forest department and any changes to them apply to all. This is also clearly mentioned under our note section in the itinerary which we sent you. Since it is a jungle with wild animals, certain things are beyond our control. You were informed about this as soon as you reached for lunch after morning safari.
You agreed to the new campsite and later on, just before the departure, you asked to cancel. By this time all was setup. Also, I would like to point out that we did organize camping at an equally beautiful spot but just down the river in a safer place. We use multiple camping sites due to many reasons such as if another lodge is already camping there, river overflowing or no water at all, movement of park rangers, census survey or in your case movement of a dangerous tiger. Above all, we do not mention any specific camping site because the camping site may change due to any of the above reasons. It would have been called cheating if we had not informed you about the closure of the camping site and directly taken you to a new site. Since we believe in complete transparency, we did not hide any facts from you and informed about the situation as they were.
The campsite was an hour away so was also the original site but it takes 8 men and more than three hours to pitch a sleeping tent, dining tent, toilet tent, staff tent and kitchen tent. Not to mention that site needs to be cleared first and made sure that everything is safe before guests arrival.
During the safari we visit many spots if there is a potential of a wildlife sighting, sometimes over and over again going back to the same place. These spots may also include where we camp. Since you are there for a wildlife experience, we made sure that you have a good sighting and does not matter if you have visited it more than once. Because of this, you had a good sighting of a mother sloth bear and cub along with other wildlife where you camped.
Wildlife industry in India is small and people know each other. We have been working with the lodges for many years and feel privileged that we know the most staff personally since our job involve working with them closely. We are friends with many staff and managers but when it comes to working, we work as professionals.
We do not want to hide any facts nor was the intention of leaving any negative impression on anyone. The only reason to involve the lodge into the conversation was to have transparency on the issues as we were getting contradictory views on the matter from you and the lodge. And the only way to get the facts true and straight was to bring everyone together so the issues can be addressed correctly. Since you were demanding for the refund it is imperative to involve the lodge where you stayed and they were directly responsible for all your activities and operations on the ground.
We try to help every guest in whichever way possible if there is any problem. We tried to help you too and wrote a letter for your insurance company upon your request for compensation because the alternate camping site was provided. You purposely did not want us to mention that due to tiger operating in the area the campsite was shut and the new site was provided. When your claim was rejected by the insurance company, you threatened us for a refund over a bad review which we consider as blackmailing. This comes as a contradiction to the feedback you have left about your experience in Satpura in which you
have clearly mentioned that it exceeded your expectation and felt like home.
It was not our fault that the campsite was closed due to the presence of threatening wildlife in the area and the camping was done in the alternate site. We do not see how we are liable to make the refund. However, still, we provided you with a free sundowner and a bottle of wine. We believe in providing our guests as many services as possible to make their vacation memorable. In this regard, we provided you private jeep safari in all the parks even before the camping incident while you were entitled only for shared jeep safari.
Overall we acted in your best interest to keep you safe while still providing you with our best services.
We are glad to know that all the other aspects of the tour went smoothly such as accommodation at other reserves, transfers, guides, food etc. And you had good sightings of animals including tiger, leopard, sloth bear amongst other wildlife.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The whole vacation was an amazing adventure so difficult to highlight any one moment. However, on the first day in Brandavagh, 20 minutes into our first drive with no one else about, we saw a large male tiger emerge from the forest just next to us and slowly meander across our path! Next, in Pench we heard alarm calls and managed to track a leopard to near a waterhole. Again we were the only jeep and sat watching her for some 15 minutes before the others arrived when she then sauntered off! Finally, on our last drive before going to the airport, we saw a sloth bear with her cub on her back walking leisurely across the meadow at Satpura - a wonderful sight and great way to end the vacation.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The Indian culture recognises tipping and over the course of our two week vacation we spent approximately £500+ in tips for the guides, drivers and lodges so it is best to come prepared as there are few ATM's available. Also, during the dry season the safari drives are very dusty so a scarf is useful and wear 'earth' coloured clothing!!!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
All the lodges appeared to employ staff from the local area. It was also apparent that they are involved in educating the villagers and young people on the environment and the benefits of conservation.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
The organisation and planning of the vacation was impeccable throughout. Saurabh was assiduous about checking that we had been met by our drivers and guides which was very reassuring. We were also very privileged in having Saurabh's company during the trip and his passion and knowledge of wildlife is outstanding. All of the above. With this local operator you are staying in locally owned properties, not large commercial concerns. The owners treat you like family, not guests. Saurabh reserves the best drivers. All our guides were very skilled at spotting wildlife & our safety was a priority. This outfit is outstanding! Saurabh personally greets all his guests. The whole trip was fantastic from start to finish. All transfers went smoothly and all the guides at our various stops were waiting for us. We had an additional add on to Jaipur and Agra before going on to the national parks, which was a great start to the trip. All four parks delivered: had fantastic sightings, seeing tigers in all 4, as well as great leopard and sloth bear sightings (particularly in Satpura). Satpura was a lovely way to round off the trip, as the traffic there is much less hectic. Saurabh (the company owner) met us while we were in Kanha to check in and see how our vacation was going, which was a really nice touch.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The 3 day add-on to Jaipur and Agra was fantastic, and was a really great way to start our trip - this was organised with no hassle whatsoever, so its worth discussing. Throw yourself into as many activities and drives as possible. Plenty of time to sleep/ recover on the long drives between parks!3. All the lodges were eco-friendly and clearly benefited the local community. You take a local guide with you on every drive, which directly supports conservation and gives employment opportunities to the local people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Not just one - lots: Tigers, at Kanha, particularly our last sighting. Meeting Saurabh our agent, he's lovely. The hospitality at Shergarh and the Nimbu Pani after a hot safari. Camping (more like glamping), seeing Sloth Bear on the walking safari, and seeing Asian wild dogs at Reni Pani. Fabulous sighting of leopard at Pench (but not the dust). Watching termites build a nest whilst walking in the buffer zone near Shergarh. All the birds everywhere.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Shergarh and Reni Pani are real treasures, very different but both great. Don't go expecting to see one particular animal just enjoy what turns up - it's all special. The transfers between camps are quite long but there's lots to see en route. Try to speak to Saurabh (free via What's App), rather than just relying on emails. Always carry toilet paper.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, the camps bring local employment in an area that is still very poor and the people are generally pleased to see you which is a good sign. The National Parks are extremely well run and provide employment for a lot of people as well as essential sanctuaries for the wildlife. We were also impressed with the environmental ethos behind how the camps are managed, particularly Shergarh.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

having seen tigers in their lives; the sightings in Bandhavgarh Park were particularly rewarding, mainly a mum waiting for the cubs to find their path to join her without any apparent anxiety from her or them!!! those are regal animals2. My goal was to see tigers, hence Bandhavgarh and Kanha Parks seem to provide more chances of sightings, but stay at least 3-4 days with 2 safaris per day. I prefer Bandhavgarh Park, natural beauty and diversity of scenery and the Host at TigerGarh makes a huge human contribution given his natural warmth and deep knowledge.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I guess so, all lodges employ people from the local villages and train them, even Satpura which is more luxurious (only had a short stay. All lodges were definitely commited to conservation and ecological concerns; I did not understand the lack of solar panels apparently too expensive.4. Everything went so smoothly. All our pick-ups, lodge stays, everything, so nothing to add there. The main issue is tipping. take enough money for tips. Saurabh provides an indication, but we managed to spend $600 and I undertipped in a few places when park guide service was under par. I have to say, that in those cases, the guides didn't expect me to tip, but I still felt that they needed something to take home, so just tipped less.3. Absolutely. The lodges used local staff that they had trained, they were environmentally conscious and did a lot in training villagers to be park guides and drivers (I'm thinking here of Forsythe Lodge in Satpura).4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
It was brilliant!!! Saurabh was an excellent planner and adapted the beginning and end of the trip to our needs. Everything he planned, worked. A driver was always waiting for us, earlier than the stated time. The lodges he selected were simply amazing (except in Pench). It is practically impossible to pick one thing out of so many - seeing a sloth bear and her two cubs was very special, watching a leopard relaxing on a rock - and that is before starting on the birds! However when pushed we have two different answers (as there were two of us there) - his was his first sighting of a tiger when it leapt across the path in front of us and mine was following a tigress along a track, she lay down and had a rest before continuing on her way quite unhurried.2. Try not to focus on seeing one animal - there are so many to see that it is mind-blowing. Every safari is different - embrace that. Give yourself time to relax and absorb the atmosphere and the sounds - you do not have to do 2 safaris each day as there is a lot that can be seen while just sitting on your verandah.3. Yes. Local people were employed everywhere we stayed and at all the parks. All the lodges were very aware of the environment and the problems that we face - each one was working hard to minimise our impact.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
It was an amazing experience and we enjoyed it enormously. Saurabh put together exactly the programme that we asked for and looked after us with extraordinary patience and cheerfulness. In hindsight we would not insist on so many safaris as we got very tired by the end of our third week but that was our own fault as we refuse to acknowledge our increasing age. We both loved every minute of this vacation - not just the fantastic wildlife, the enchanting people, the scenery, the remarkable kindness that we encountered in India, but the food deserves a special mention too. The vacation was extremely well planned and varied. The naturalists were very knowledgable and easy to talk to with endless patience. All staff in the lodges made us feel very welcome and as if we were staying in their own home. The food was outstanding and the standard of accommodation first class. Saurabh accompanied us for the first part of our vacation and was great fun as well as being a knowledgable guide. When he left us he constantly made contact with the lodges to ensure that we were ok and that our transfers were on time and everything in order. He telephoned us at the end of our stay to see ask our opinion of how the rest of the vacation progressed and if we had any complaints or unresolved issues. He is constantly looking for ways to make improvements and maintain his high standards. The home stay was excellent and offered an opportunity to interact with village life on a personal level. Take a dust cover! It can be quite dusty on the road. Also, read up on the transfer in New Delhi as you might have to take a shuttle bus from airport to airport there. The stay at Bhoromadeo Jungle retreat was amazing, with the host Sunny and his wife and team making us feel so welcome. Certainly the nature reserve accommodations used treated water rather than bottled water. We shopped in the village markets for our food. Thank you for introducing me to Saurabh Agrawal and the tour operator we used. I had a great time and view the trip as highly successful. I have visited India and Nepal several times. This time I wanted to focus solely on photographing tigers. My expectations were exceeded. There is no doubt that luck plays a part in any wildlife viewing, but equally, if not more important, is designing a trip that will allow good luck to function. Saurabh chose the locations, the accommodations and the people who accompanied us. He acted as my guide. The vehicle used to transport us between locations was roomy, comfortable and spotless. The driver was good, not too fast, not too slow and not reckless. ( Believe me I've had my share of drivers who left me shaken.) I gave Saurabh my accommodation preferences and each of the three I used matched these well. As a guide and traveling companion Saurabh was excellent. He has the experience to select the areas on which to focus, to know signs to be followed, to spot the animals and to position clients well in order to take photographs. Saurabh has a broad knowledge of the world and can participate in any type of discussion. He is kind and considerate and looked after this 73 year old solo traveler well.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
For anyone looking for a similar trip to that which I completed I can highly recommend our tour operator. I met others for whom the company had made arrangements and their views mirrored mine. Allow six months to ensure good zone selection choices in the parks. Each park is split into several zones, overall park entry and individual zones must be pre-booked. The topography and vegetation of each zone differs so the zones selected to see specific bird types and those selected to see tigers may differ. It would be preferable to request of our tour operator either a general interest quest or a list of specifics. I find it is preferable to spend several days in one park to a day or two in several. The distances between parks is not always large but the travel time almost certainly is. A change in parks basically equates to a dead day for me, for others it may be seen as a great way to see village life. Tipping is a way of life on these trips - expect to contribute a low of 500 and up to 1000 rupees a day plus whatever you give your overall guide at the end of your trip. Visitors will need many, many, many 100 rupee bills. Many villages or small towns may have only one ATM or none at all, if there is one and it is not working it can be a problem, it's probably best to stock up in a city. For tipping in accommodations it is best to avoid giving tips for every little service, rather leave 300 to 500 rupees per day to be shared by staff.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I am sure you know better than I do that tourism, especially in India, is a labour intensive industry. This trip certainly contributed to the employment and therefor well-being of many people. In the Jeep with me as we searched were Saurabh, a driver and a Government Game Ranger. The check- in procedure for the park involved at least two people apparent to me, but probably more. There is no doubt that tourists traveling in the parks have changed the environment. The animals are habituated to vehicles; whether this is good or bad is subjective. The parks I visited appeared to me to be near or at their carrying capacity and animals seeking territories can extend their areas into "buffer" zones and beyond thereby increasing human/animal conflict. Government policy may or may not be adequate to resolve the situation. The parks are also at tourist carrying capacity. The lead time for booking and relatively high costs support this view. It can only get worse.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

If I had to pick a single most exciting part of the trip, it would be our first observation of a tiger in the wild in Bandhavgarh. Local guides in the reserves provides employment for the area and the required local knowledge to get the best from the trip. Mostly local villagers were employed at the game lodges. It is impossible to compare many of the past vacations we have been fortunate to have been on, but this journey to central India rates 5 stars. It was one of the best. Hard to mention one thing! We were incredibly fortunate to have had some stunning tiger sightings, but that aside the trip that Saurabh and our tour operator put together was out of this world. One thing that was a real highlight was when Saurabh, along with Bagh Villas, planned a surprise private dinner under the stars for us; it really was an unforgettable experience.2. Yes - the whole trip was done in a way that felt like it did have an effect on reducing environmental impacts and supporting conservation. The water in the tents was filtered and bottled on site, therefore not increasing plastic bottle waste. All the showers etc are solar powered. They grow their own vegetables in the garden. It really felt like a very different trip in that sense to the more "commercial" vacations we have done in the past.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Absolutely 5 star. 10 out of 10. We were completely blown away by everything that was done for us on this trip. We have been lucky to have stayed in the past in some nice hotels etc, however this trip was 100 times better than anything we had done before.
