1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The most exciting part of the vacation was biking home from the family dinner at night in Udaipur in the middle of traffic. We had to dodge scooters, horse drawn carts, bikes and I nearly biked into the side of an elephant. At that moment I realized I was in India. Other great moments include the Mumbai slum tour, the crowded Lord Ramen street party in Jodphur. I liked the City Palace, Kumbargh Fort, the Jain Temple and the Taj Mahal. The numerous rides on moot-rickshaws through narrow old city streets were also exciting if not occasionally terrifying.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be prepared to get right into India. You will not be seeing things from an air conditioned bus, you will be right in the thick of it, sitting in a rickshaw in traffic with the music, and the smoke and the people and the cows. However, accommodation was always clean, with A/C. Be open minded & flexible and you will have a fantastic journey.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think the vacation benefitted local people and was a relatively low impact trip from an environmental standpoint. The trip was organized by a local NGO that uses 80% of the profits from its tours for the capacity building work it does in the slums of Mumbai and Delhi. In the trip we stayed at small family owned hotels and homestays and relied on local transportation. I do not think the trip supported conservation. However, we did learn about how the slums are centers for recycling plastics, cloth, paper and electronics.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was an excellent tour. Not only did we see amazing sights and get a sense of life in different cities in Rajasthan but we also were able to sample local cuisine. It was an exciting eye opening trip that gave us a real taste of life in India and of the rich culture and history of the place.
