1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
All experiences were unique and fantastic! It's hard to choose just one that is more memorable than the others. My fiance and I really enjoyed seeing live bands and getting an authentic experience staying in casa particulares. Trinidad was a highlight because of the friendly people, the food and drinks, colorful architecture and history of the city. I also loved hiking to the waterfall and swimming in it! Vinales was another highlight because of its beautiful landscape, the spectacular lunch at the farm and visiting the cave. Snorkeling near the Bay of Pigs was a fantastic experience, as well as riding in the classic car in Havana. All the hosts at the casas were wonderful as well. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious with fresh fruit and coffee and bread, and the butter at Ms. Julia's home in Cinefuegos was INCREDIBLE! She was very friendly and accommodating. Roberto, the host in Trinidad, was a very nice person with a gorgeous home and took care of all of our needs. The workers at the casa in Havana (Ernesto and the other fellas) were wonderful and very helpful and friendly. Gloria's home in Vinales was modern and comfortable with a great view, and she was very friendly.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
I would recommend bringing snacks with you if you get hungry often like me, since they are very hard to come by - the only place I saw snacks was at the airport and they were vanilla wafers. I brought a LifeStraw since it can be difficult to find bottled water at times. I drank a lot of water since it was so hot, and it saved me to be able to drink water right out of the sink with my LifeStraw. I got mine for $25 at Target which was the cheapest I found anywhere online. Bring lots of small bills for tips and tissues for the bathroom (public places may not have TP) and wipes/hand sanitizer. I'd recommend telling customers not to flush toilet paper, which I don't think was in the pre-departure email. If you want to save money when paying at restaurants, I'd also recommend to pay in Cuban pesos instead of USD, since you get more for your money that way.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Absolutely! Since we stayed with families in their homes, it benefitted them directly. The reason I chose this tour was so that we could meet Cuban people and see how the live, learn from them and have an authentic experience, which we did!4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This vacation gets a 15 out of 10! Our tour guide Carlitan (Carlos) was amazing and went above and beyond in taking us to the best local places and creating a bond with us. He was excellent at managing us as a group and we all got along like family. He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites and was considerate in asking us what we wanted to do or offering. We all left Cuba as friends, and I will never forget this experience. Carlos is an excellent person and guide an I would recommend everyone to travel with him! Our bus driver Orlando was very friendly and professional as well. We really enjoyed spending time with him and also feel that he's one of our new friends. Book Orlando for all driving tours! :) We had such a positive experience that we hope to come back in the future. We fully recommend this company and tour to everyone who wants an authentic experience of Cuba!Victor Lopez review 30 May 2023

To me it was the interaction with the people. The homeowners, the tour guide, the people we would meet. Everyone was very welcoming.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Getting to know about local people’s lives through what we saw and what our tour guide explained to us. The Cuban people are so friendly and resilient!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
We didn’t book this trip as one purely for sightseeing or pleasure. We did it to get a chance to see how people there live their lives and our experiences there make us feel more connected to the Cuban people.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes in the sense that we were able to share with the people that we all have common dreams and concerns about our world.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
It was a wonderful and very worthwhile experience.Tim Cunningham review 9 Nov 2022
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Exploring the colonial town of Trinidad and listening to the live music with all the locals dancing salsa in the audience.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be prepared to be flexible; there may be widespread blackouts and limited food options but the people are amazing and if you’re willing to let your inhibitions go and relax, you’ll have a blast.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
There were some opportunities to benefit local people through the casa stays and through buying local but I think more could be incorporated. There was not much of a focus on environmental impacts on this tour.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Very good, this is not a luxury tour but that’s not the real Cuba experience. I think this tour offered the highlights of the amazing historical and current day Cuba while simultaneously demonstrating the struggles that the people go through everyday along with both sides of the revolution history and how they live with it today.asked to respond to q3 - 23/12/22

Visiting a small tobacco farm in Viñales. Staying in characterful casas, not hotels. Long conversations with our guide, learning so much about life in Cuba.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Check with the operator in advance to see what things you might take as small tips/gifts; check what currency they recommend for tips to your guide/s.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Definitely. Stay in Casas, visit small establishments, be mindful of the shortages in Cuba and be tolerant.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

All of it!! Well planned with just the right amount of free time and activities. Great bunch of people on the tour all bought together by our guide Franklin, he is a real asset to your company! Loved this tour and will be looking into taking a trip to the east side of Cuba in the future.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take small gifts for your hosts. They are amazing people and small items which we take for granted in the UK mea a a lot to them. It is a great way to show your appreciation.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes I did! I cannot understand anyone going to experience Cuba wanting to stay in an all-inclusive (you could be anywhere!) Just beyond the hotel pool is a complex amazing and fascinating country. I feel we only scratched the surface but would love to go back for more!4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Encountering real Cubans, from our amazing guide, Pedro, to the casa owners who welcome you as family. All of the tours and the narrative from Pedro were at a level that treated us like intelligent learners and not just tourists.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Do it!! It’s a tremendous value-all the transportation, easy access to places to stay and eat, personalized direction and support. As a single female I felt safe 100% of the time day or night. We were never directed into touristy shopping situations or pressured tobuy anything.Individual reinstate and interests were completely catered to.If you love music and cocktails and history go to Cuba!!!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The casa owners and small restaurants seems genuinely happy to host us.Having water on board the bus to refill water bottles helped limit the bottles we had to purchase.Stopping intentionally and eating at real restaurants meant we did not see a lot of plastic waste.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Outstanding. We were fortunate to have an international group of travelers who got along beautifully and became a team and a family. This is in no small part a credit to intelligent, compassionate leadership from Pedro and exceptional driving by Rafael.Kerry Skinner review 22 Feb 2020
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Everything, Cuba is a fascinating country and the team prepared an itinerary which ensured we saw all the highlights and really experienced the culture through unique experiences with locals2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Don't hesitate to book, they were amazing from start to finish even when we had 1 million questions prior to arriving.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes absolutely, we stayed with locals in casas, ate at locally owned restaurants (rather than government owned) and had unique experiences such as visiting the family owned cigar plantation and an organic farm for a truly amazing sunset feast.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
5*, couldn't fault a thing. Our guide Yaniel was friendly, efficient, incredible at breaking down the history in a way we could all easily understand and we would have be absolutely lost without him when it came to finding a nice restaurants. I am not usually a fan of group tours but I really feel like with a developing country like Cuba you get so much more out of the vacation by doing a tour like this, the rest of our group were so friendly as well and the personalised booking experience we received from the team really was excellent.Mindy Ferber review 17 Feb 2020

All the trip was well organised and remarkable.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Do it.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
To use the Casa Particulars and Paladars helps local people to keepup their families. I have some doubts, that the cars and buses used in cuba recently reduces the enviromental polution but however this is the way to make turism. The turism supports the conservation.4. 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Our guide Sharing the history and culture of Cuba. The colorful variety of cultural and adventurous activities and choices. Our group ranged in age from 18 to 85 and everyone participated equally!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Even though everything on the Internet states otherwise, Cuban restaurants, guides, and some activities do take American dollars gratefully. I was not penalized with the 10% USD tax at restaurants.Be prepared to become unplugged from the Internet and enjoy yourself! However, and Surprisingly, the small towns like Vinales, offer free Wi-Fi at many cafés and restaurants. If you are vegetarian, bring protein bars and peanut butter as there are not many choices. Open your heart and enjoy the people, and every moment!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Because we needed to buy our water, there was a lot of plastic consumption. I recommend bringing water purifier sold to backpackers at your Local REI or similar store. Otherwise, we totally travel to, slept in, and ate in local restaurants that benefited the Cuban people. The Casas were VERY COMFORTABLE and private - amazing Opportunity to interact with the families. Your breakfast will be locally produced and so delicious and filling.4. 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
It is very difficult to respond to this question, as we have so many terrific memories. The walk-around tours were such a great way for us to learn the essentials of each city, the optional activities added a lot of great memories, and our tour guide Oscar was phenomenal. Probably one of the most exciting experiences was going to the beach in Trinidad by ourselves. Oscar has shared the information we needed to get there and described what to expect, so we were very comfortable going solo for the trip.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Wear good shoes and prepare to enjoy every step!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, I do. The economy is tough, and it is hardest on the "common" Cuban. Staying with local families and eating at / visiting privately owned restaurants and farms puts tourism dollars (Euros, etc) right where they are needed most. And when tourists visit national parks, botanical gardens, and caves, conservation efforts are supported and encouraged.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
A+++ We enjoyed this visit even more than we dared hoped. We found Cubans to be welcoming, hospitable, and lively. The operator associates handled all the trip details, providing us with comfortable and clean accommodations, necessary and interesting information, and got us to/from our destinations safely. Thank you all!!!APRIL VEINE review 12 Dec 2019

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Being mature travelers we found "life style" under communism very interesting (as against the Chinese system). There is no glaring advertising, no big fancy shops, no poor people, no beggars (except a few kids taking a chance with tourists) and the young people are vibrant, happy and embrace the system. It really is a "time travel" experience, with horses & buggies, motor cycles & side cars, and the "old American cars" which are about 80% of the local transport. The Casa accommodation is good in Havana and on the tour, if somewhat a little basic in some places, but the friendliness and warmth of the owners is lovely.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
It is very humid so you sweat a lot. Take a Tee shirt for each day and give your old one to your host. Small stuff like cosmetics/hygiene products are not readily available so take all you require. Your hosts are very, very, happy to receive what you do not want. Shorts and sandals are the order of the day, long trousers are not really necessary for going out to any places we went too. Mosquito's were not really a problem, but sand flies on the beach, were. Take Euro's, Pounds, Canadian dollars to exchange, and try and get out of the airport ASAP to change into CUC's. It took an hour with only 5 people in front of me to change money. Our credit/Debit cards worked fine, (from UK) but American issued ones do not.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, I certainly believe it helped the locals where we stayed as there are very few opportunities for them to create extra income.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent. Very well organised and we experienced everything the brochure promised.Manuelle Prunier review 8 Oct 2019
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
(Sorry for very late review, my trip was in December 2018-January 2019). Staying in casas particulares, with the opportunity to meet people and have a peek into how they live was a big highlight for me. The kindness and warmth of the hosts, they were always helpful. Visiting Havana Central the day I arrived, before starting the trip. This very dilapidated area shows 'real' Havana, people in the streets talk to you, are interested in where you come from, there is music everywhere, you feel close to the soul of the city (and I felt safe at all times as a single female). With the group we have plenty of time to visit Havana Vieja which is restored and very beautiful, another facet of the city. Breakfasts were fantastic. Amazing architecture and colors in all the cities we visited. A lovely evening on the rooftop. This felt very special.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Learning some Spanish to be able to communicate with casas particulares hosts and other people. My Spanish was too basic for real conversations, I regretted that. But even with a few words, showing interest and being friendly, making a compliment on the room and breakfast, showing gratitude for the welcome and people were all smiles and ready to talk and share. Having US 1 bills for tips on the day of arrival (eg washroom in the airport, bus driver) since we cannot get CUCs in advance. The operator was excellent with providing comprehensie pre-trip information which is well worth reading in detail. Learning about Cuba's history before the trip helps to understand the country and some of the places we visit a bit better. It is a country that never ceases to puzzle and to amaze. Being mindful that supplies are short and so being careful of not wasting food, water, bathroom supplies etc3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in private homes and eating in family-run restaurants benefited local people. The guides are able to earn a better living than if they worked in other fields than tourism. This is both a great economic opportunity and a sad situation when you see highly qualified engineers who cannot afford to work in their specialization4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent. I much appreciated the professionalism of the company pre-departure and during the trip. Our guide (Carlos) was friendly, knowledgeable, well organized and resourceful - and fun. It was nice to have free time almost everywhere to explore on our own. The guide was very good at giving us pointers. When I go to Cuba again I will not hesitate to travel with this operator againRita Liauw review 29 Sep 2019

Swimming beneath the waterfall in rural Cuba. Many exciting times, however, like our salsa lesson and swimming in the Caribbean Sea and the Bay of Pigs.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take gifts for your hosts at the Casa Particularis; all small items are SO appreciated. Exchange enough money to CUCS early on, because the banks are so tough to find and make the hours match to your travel times.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We tipped generously and brought gifts for the families and children we stayed with. It was wonderfully received and a delightful sharing of my blessings with others.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
It was a wonderful trip! We went to 4 destinations in Cuba. We loved Vienales with the mogotes mountains. It was beautiful. The food was amazing everywhere! Mostly, we had the best tour guide named Saul. He was fun and brought everyone on the tour together. We had people from the age of 25 to 77 years old from 4 continents and Saul made it fun for everyone. I highly recommend Cuba and Saul! He is the best!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Cuba is a rich cultural experience. The casa owners were kind and helpful. We had many activity choices from snorkeling or swimming in the Bay of Pigs (beautiful water) hiking, zip lining, going to the beach in Trinidad, mojito making class, salsa lessons, Plaza Vieja in Havana. Beautiful squares in Havana. Learning all about the real Cuban people and what their lives are like in terms of their very educated population and their health care system. This was one of my best trips.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We eventually took the 10 day vivacious Cuba tour rather than the 8 day as we originally thought we might. We thought the most memorable part of our tour was staying in the casa particulars. We've travelled quite a bit but this was the first time we felt that we got to know how the locals lived.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Go! Cuba is beautiful and the Cuban people are wonderful.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, we stayed in private (not government) B&Bs, which they call a CASA. The Cuban people were eager to have us stay, shop, and eat at privately owned businesses to support the Cuban people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This is what I posted (with pictures) on Facebook: Cuba was an unforgettable & positive travel experience. Our English speaking guides were well-educated, caring, energetic & fun. The private B&Bs (they refer to them as a CASA) were clean & comfortable. The food was really good - especially the fresh fruit & seafood. Our group's transportation was on modern air conditioned buses. Travel from the U.S. to Cuba via Southwest or United Airlines was a snap. Cuba is an incredible tropical travel bargain (8 days & 7 nights including airport transportation, breakfasts, a lunch, a dinner, tours, travel in Cuba, B&Bs @ each location, & lots of drinks, all for under $700.). Our tour was limited to 12 people, so we bonded and had a great time. Our group had 3 Israelis, 2 Canadians & 7 Americans. We had fun! AND, there is no extra charge for singles traveling alone, nor do singles have to share a room. Our B&Bs had single rooms & doubles. Go to Cuba!Hang Nguyen review 21 Oct 2019

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Everything was soooo perfect! We got along very well with the other people of the tour (different countries, different ages)... we always went out together, even in the evening. Our guide helped us a lot and went out in the evening with us. During the day we had plenty of activities and visits and important things to learn. Casas particulares were always clean and nice. Local people were friendly and they made excellent breakfast!! According to me, the most memorable part of my vacation was the last dinner in Havana, having a perfect dinner on a rooftop(which is my favourite place in Cuba!) in Havana vieja.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Nothing...just book it and you'll have an exciting experience!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, because we always slept in Casas Particulares (by Cuban families - all kind, clean and helpful!), We ate in a local bio farm and we visited some Cuban factories. As for dinner and lunch - out of the tour - we always ate in paladares(private restaurant) and we had magnificent activities with local people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I rate it as one of the best moments of my entire life!! I really recommend people to take part in this tour.Stephanie Georgiou review 5 Mar 2018

The perfect balance of activities and free time. We visited the main cities of Cuba and their main attractions and everything was thoroughly planned out for us.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

This specific package definitely supports local businesses as we only stayed in casas particulares and all of the company employees. We interacted with whilst staying there are Cuban.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
The tour was amazing! Our tour guide Daniel literally provided all the answers, he always had spot on recommendations and proactively foreseen all of our needs. Dan would answer promptly all of my questions before the trip and the organizing part was very well thought out. All of the casas particulares we stayed in were in a very good condition with delicious breakfasts. The casas were also air-conditioned, a luxury I wasn't expecting. Hot water in the showers was provided in all of them (except for one). The tour has sincerely exceeded my expectations.Debbie Beggan review 1 Mar 2018

The whole vacation was great but surprise opportunity to do a zip wire in Trinidad was fun & loved the trek & swim to the waterfall.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring old clothes that you are happy to leave at each casa as well as soap toothpaste pens etc. Even though I had worn most of what I gave away they were really grateful. also left more room to buy souvenirs including rum.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I hope I make a difference by giving away clothes & gifts. it was great to talk to Cubans about what their life was really like but often aware get sanitised version as not sure who else is listening. Also eye opening to discover your driver & hosts are lawyers who can make more money working with tourists than their profession. it would be great if could reduce the amount of bottled water maybe by providing water purification tablets so can refil a reusable bottle.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Really enjoyed my trip and if my own schedule had allowed would have liked to have added some chill out time at the beach. Our guide Lidier was great & really helpful. All but one of the group were on an 8 day tour but think he missed us as popped in each morning when we were having breakfast in Havana before doing city tour with other guy on the 10 days. he also organised this around what his guest wanted to do rather than just bog standard sights. The driver Diango was also lovely & thou his English not so strong we had fun chatting about music & animals.Amanda Bennett review 15 Nov 2018

I'm not sure. We stayed in casas particulares which brought some money into the local economy, but not sure about supporting conservation or reducing environmental impacts.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Welcoming ang and friendly people. Time spent learning how they live their lives and talking (as best we could) with locals. The group we travelled with were varied in age but all of fun loving and enquiring nature. Loved the time we all spent together sharing our experiences together and with our enthusiastic guide Manolo.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring an open mind, engage with your hosts and locals.....so much to give. Step outside the standard tourist must dos. Party on the beach....mind the jellyfish and mozzies at dusk!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in casas and enjoying any activities benefitted locals directly. Environmental impacts need addressing by all (visitors and locals) bringing disposable products and plastics...especially since the rubbish removal is not well managed. I would like to see effort put into solving this issue especually outside the city areas before it ruins the unique environment.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent trip, did all the usual musts and some.Jenny Jones review 22 Oct 2018
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
We’d never done a guided tour before and normally organise everything ourselves, it was definitely nice to have someone else handle all the travel in- between locations. It was great to see so much of Cuba and have many of the little details already taken care of for you. All of the Casa Particulares that we stayed in were lovely and our hosts were all incredibly friendly. We particularly loved going snorkelling in the Bay of Pigs and Trinidad was a beautiful and relaxing town to explore. Our guide also took us to a nightclub in a cave while we were in Trinidad which was so much fun!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
One thing that future travelers should be aware of is that pretty much all of the restaurants that we were taken to with our group were a bit pricy, it would have been nice to have had a range of different restaurant tiers instead of just going to the expensive ones. We definitely found that when eating on our own the prices seemed to be around 30-40% cheaper even though we were still going to really nice looking restaurants with delicious food. I think in some places we may have been paying a higher price because the guide was getting all his meals for free, so maybe that was being included in the price of everyone else’s meals. There were also times when we were driving that we’d stop in the middle of nowhere for lunch and the guide would ask if we wanted to eat there as the price was really cheap and only 5 CUC per dish but then when we’d sit down to eat the price was actually double that. Of course once you’ve actually sat down at the table with the group you don’t really feel like you can say no to the price. Also, optional activities seemed to be pricier when organised through the guide then when organised by yourself. So I’d definitely recommend that you do research before you go on the tour so that you know what’s available in each place you go to and can then arrange for things like taxis on your own instead of asking the guide to do it for you. When we were in Trinidad we were told by the guide that we could have a salsa lesson either in Trinidad or Vinales but that Vinales would be the better place to do it. When we got to Vinales we were told that the salsa lesson was an optional activity and not included as part of the tour. I was pretty sure that when I’d looked at all the included activities that it was included but unfortunately I hadn’t brought a printed list with me so thought that maybe I was just mistaken. When I got home and checked I was annoyed to find out that I had been correct and that it was an included activity. So I’m not very happy that I had to pay an additional 20 CUC for the salsa lesson considering that we’d already paid for it as part of the tour. As I mentioned above, I’ve never had a guided tour before so maybe I’m just being a bit naïve about this but I thought that our guide would do more to help protect us from people trying to scam us. We did a walking tour of Trinidad and our guide took us past a restaurant and told us that it was really nice in there and that it was only 8 CUC per dish. In the evening our group went out dancing and drinking and decided to go get some food together. We went to the same restaurant that we’d walked past earlier, our guide translated what the waiter was saying and told us about an ‘amazing deal’ that they could do for us that night which would only cost 15 CUC per person. One of the ladies in our group pointed out that earlier the guide had said it was 8 CUC for any dish so why had it suddenly doubled. The guide grinned and then said something like “argh, you’ve got a good memory!”, the price then suddenly dropped back down to 8 CUC… Also I noticed on the tour operators website that bottled water was supposed to be offered on car journeys between destinations longer than two hours and also an internet access card. We weren’t offered any of these things and brought our own throughout the trip. While these weren’t big expenses it’s not quite what the tour promised.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Cuba seems to have quite a big tipping culture so I would definitely say that it benefited local people. I doubt that the trip had any positive environmental impacts or helped to support conservation.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
In hindsight I wish that we’d done the 8-day tour instead of the 10-day one as I don’t feel that the additional 2 days offer very good value for money. There are only 2 additional activities included on those two days, a tour of a cigar factory and a rum factory. You can do both of these activities within a few hours so you could easily do them during the free time you get on the 8-day tour. I don’t think it helped that everyone else in our group was only doing the 8-day tour so we were on our own at the end. Also, the guide stopped meeting up with us at our Casa on our last couple of days there, and we had to walk into the center of Havana to meet up with him. This felt quite different to the first 8 days of the tour and so it felt like the tour was a little less personal. Overall, I’m glad that we did an organised tour as we got to see lots of Cuba and it made getting around really easy. We saw some pretty amazing things, like when our guide took us to a nightclub in a cave when we were in Trinidad. But at the same time there were some issues like restaurant prices being higher when we were with the guide, I’m also not happy that we had to pay twice for the salsa lesson and so would recommend that people keep an eye on prices and keep a list with them of what should be included on their tour.Read the operator's response here:
Dear Jenny,
Thank you for submitting your feedback for your recent group tour. As one of the managers of our operation in Cuba I really appreciate these detailed comments, as feedback (including contructive feedback) is in fact a great help to us to improve our services. It is the number
one way we monitor the quality of our services and is critical in helping our guides to continually improve.
Firstly I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your time on tour, including your accommodations and the activities included. I is also great to hear that you don't regret taking a guided tour as you got to see lots of Cuba and it made things really easy for you.
I would like to re-enforce that our guides are not permitted to take commission from any of the restaurants they take our clients to (or from any activity or transportation provider). We are sorry to hear that you found some of the guides restaurant choices to be on the expensive side. We ask our guides to select a variety of restaurants to take our clients to that showcase Cuba's burgeoning private restaurant sector. As we do not include many lunches or dinners as part of the tour, we give our clients the flexibility to follow their guides recommendations or they can choose to eat elsewhere. We will use this feedback to inform
our guides that they should offer our group tour clients a number of restaurant recommendations depending on their budget.
With regards to the inclusions on the tour, you should not have been asked to pay for the salsa lesson in Vinales if you hadn't taken the complimentary lesson in Trinidad. We include 1 x complimentary salsa lesson as part of our group tours and this can be taken at a location that is convenient to you. We have contacted you by email to apologise for this and processed a refund for this portion of the tour.
Including water for our clients (and the internet access card) is a relatively new initiative for our group tours, and we are very sorry these elements were not provided as promised. We have again contacted you by email to offer an apology and refund.
We wish you all the best for 2018 and beyond.
Sincerely,
Romey

The whole trip was memorable, however visiting the wonderful eco farm in Vinales - fantastic vista, wonderful organic home produced food was a real highlight. We also visited the missiles (of the crisis) which are on public display -very surreal! Our first hand experience of a hurricane was definitely memorable, but also highlighted the kindness and resilience of the Cuban people.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Avoid the hurricane season! Cuba felt very safe, however be aware of activities you do alone as sudden hidden costs may appear - eg drinks at twice the normal price.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in local houses did directly benefit local people.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Experiencing the culture and hospitality of the Cuban people and observing the lovely architecture of the buildings. Lots of restoration must be done, however this is understandable knowing Cuba's history. Seeing and riding in the old cars. Observing the villagers riding on their horses and horse drawn carts. Workers plowing their fields on oxen drawn plows. This takes you 50 years back. What an experience. Our group was very compatible and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. Our guide Yoli was just fantastic and went out of her way to ensure everyone's needs were met. our driver was just as great. The scenery of the various towns and villages-Cenefugous, Trinidad, Vinalles and of course Cuba were just great.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Read your trip notes thoroughly. It is very thorough, concise and very informative. The cost of our entire trip was very reasonable compared to other options. Usually the airfare cost includes your medical travel insurance. The streets, sidewalks and pavements are badly in need of repair, so watch out for potholes and uneven, broken steps etc. Understandable, because of 50 years of decay. I fell into a pothole on the Malecon and suffered a severe sprained ankle. However the medical attention was efficient.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. Tourists definitely support the local economy and the people in the service support arena- Restaurants, Casa Particulars, waiters and maids all greatly benefit from our tips and the CUC currency.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

All of it - it was one of the best vacations I've had! In particular: as I do Cuban Salsa at home, being able to do lots of salsa dancing and soaking in the music and atmosphere was excellent. The tour guide was amazing, so informative, friendly, helpful, happy to answer all sorts of questions, obviously loves his country and wanted to help us experience it. The Casa I stayed in in Havana had the most amazing views over the Malecon.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring a day pack for day outings and to have things handy in the bus while traveling. Then pack a small bag for just a phone and some money for nights out. If you can bring your own water bottle with a filter (which I did) you can fill up with tap water rather than having to rely on bottled water. Bring your camera and enough SD cards - so much to photograph. The Lonely Planet Guide was a good help, especially for my days in Havana on my own, to find my way around and decide what I wanted to see most.3. Certainly we spend money which must be helpful. As for reducing environmental impacts that's unlikely because we travel by vehicle, generate laundry and huge quantities of rubbish; nor am I aware how we supported conservation unless Responsible Travel is actively running awareness raising courses in Cuba.4. I really enjoyed it and we had a great guide on Daniel, although he needs to plan his briefings better. A noisy restaurant is not conducive to a welcome talk from half way down the table. He was a genuine friend who happened to know all the great things to do around Cuba. He suggested things that he knew the group would enjoy and carefully planned each day so that there was enough free time to relax and just sink into that Cuban culture. She also gave us an excellent understanding of life in CubaKate Geoghegan review 2 Sep 2016
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Having a great guide, Pedro, to lead our small group tour around Cuba.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be flexible and open minded. Our tour turned out to be 7 singles who got on brilliantly - haven't laughed so much for ages!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes - used casas run by locals and restaurants run by locals. Bought large bottles of water to refill small therefore reducing waste by recycling.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
A fantastic experience!Mandy Smith review 17 Aug 2016
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
All the places were great, but I would have to say the live nightly music in the main square in Trinidad was a real treat. No charge to see great Salsa bands and dancing!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring plenty of cash, because there are no credit cards accepted anywhere. Also, be wary of eating Cuban food on the street. It may be tempting, but you're better off eating in restaurants that cater to tourists so that you don't get sick. Get plenty of extra internet cards. They're cheap and you don't want to wait in line a second time. (There's always a huge wait at the Wifi access store)3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I feel it benefited local people, as the places we stayed in were B&B's in peoples houses (casas) and the money they make helps to supplement their otherwise meager incomes. I'm not sure about reducing environmental impacts or supporting conservation. There was a fair amount of waste (burning trash, some trash in the streets) that could be addressed by the local government, but I don't think our vacation added or reduced that in any way.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Our vacation was incredible. Our guide was super knowledgeable, helpful and easy-going. We found the Cuban people to be kind and gracious hosts and we felt very safe. From beginning to end, the whole trip went very smoothly and we would love to return someday.Mariam Conway review 1 Jul 2016
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Walking through the streets of Havana which are so full of life - beautiful (albeit crumbling) buildings, lovingly kept cars from the 1920's and '30s, the sound of salsa playing at all hours, locals congregating at the sea wall (Malecon) to socialise and dance...2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring cash as ATMs are hard to come buy and buy an Internet card as soon as you see one as they're very difficult to get in some towns.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes as, for instance, we had a local guide, stayed in people's houses (Casa Particulares) and looked out for women with children and the elderly to give lifts to in our minibus. Plus it was a small group tour.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Brilliant - a real insight to the history, culture and people of Cuba...plus salsa, rum and cigars.Pat Mobley review 20 Apr 2016

The best way to experience a destination is with the people who live there so staying in Casa Particulares, home stays, provided this opportunity. Every home stay was wonderful – modest, clean, friendly service - and, great breakfasts with fresh fruit, eggs and Cuban coffee. From the start our tour guide Yunier, a local Cuban, fluent in English, was there to offer great suggestions as to how to spend our days. Always willing to help and provide unique insight to ensure we had the best experience! He was a wonderful guide and Frank, an excellent driver. Our 8 day tour included: Havanna, Cienfuegas and the Bay of Pigs, Trinidad via Santa Clara and Vinales. Our journey started in Havanna staying in a Casa Particulare in the Malecon district with wonderful views on the sea front, a short stroll into the Old Havanna. The variety of activities at each destination was extensive. I thought the balance was just right. Vinales and Trinidad were worth spending two nights each. They are outstanding destinations. Cienfuegos at sunset from the yacht club was stunning, but one night was sufficient. Offering extra days in Havana before or after the tour was a great option and I`m glad I did that. My favourite activities included the Che Guevarra museum in Santa Clara; visiting a tobacco farm/ organic small holding in Vinales; diving in the Bay of Pigs and again at Playa Ancon, Trinidad; my salsa lesson in Trinidad; the Old Havana tour on the last day of our tour in a classic convertible 50s car; and, having cocktails with a bottle of rum placed on our table to have as much as we wanted.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Its one of those destinations that you're probably saying 'one day'... but I'd recommend booking your trip sooner rather than later. Exchanging money: Hotels, restaurants and most casas will exchange Euros into CUC which is far easier than standing in long queues for an ATM or bank. Don't bother with CUP as my fellow travelers got stuck with them and not even useful for buying water. The internet is not readily accessible in Cuba so you'll need to rely on sms and not email nor WhatsApp. Plan your activities in advance to maximize your trip as you'll not be able to search for tours and activities when you're there. Finally, plan to have fun whilst respecting the local culture - then you'll have a fantastic time. Make plans in advance specifically your accommodation arrangements in Havanna as my guide mentioned it was fully booked due to significantly increased tourism.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in Casas or home stays, provided the opportunity of benefiting local people as well as our guide being a local Cuban. Visiting organic farms also supports the environment.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Absolutely stunning - I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in an authentic experience of Cuba.Mary Walters review 15 Jan 2016
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
I loved all of it. The hike up to the waterfall was certainly a highlight, but so was the tour of Ché's mausoleum, and the city tours, and the history, and the people ... everything. Too many to mention. In fact, I am blogging about them in detail at https://iamallwrite.wordpress.com/2016/01/14/watch-listen-learn-cuba-1-havana/2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be very careful to learn the look and value of the Cuban money soon after you arrive. Always have small coins or bills (CUCs or CUPs) to pay to use toilets (I generally gave them 25 centavos) and for other tips (1 to 3 CUCs). Don't drink the water, even to brush your teeth. Be PATIENT. Have fun!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. I hope so. We loved staying with local people and they were very kind to us and friendly.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

My vacation certainly benefited the local people. Economically and socially. I had the opportunity to listen to and share life experiences with the people I met, and there is personal growth through this type of learning.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

The tour guide. He was very personable and tried hard to make us comfortable. and shared a lot of good information with us about what it is like to live in Cuba. The best experiences, i felt, were these three: (1) the hike to the waterfall in the national park near Trinidad -- we saw Cuba's national bird, huge wasp nests/colonies, woodpecker, and swimming to the cave behind the waterfall was cool. (2) visiting the farmland near Vinales, a tobacco farm, and listening to Cuban music in the town. (3) walking tour of old Havana and classic car tour of new Havana2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Go during low season you may get a smaller group. My group was particularly small (just 3 people and we had two Cubans from the company with us) so we were especially lucky.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I had heard from many people that when they go on large bus tours from resorts that local people in Trinidad will wait there at the bus stop for them. When they get off, people will ask them for clothing, and goods for donation. I didn't experience that to my surprise. We came surreptiously and unannounced, I guess, so that was good. I brought some clothes and one of our tour guides took it to the town square in Vinales and distributed it to some people. I'm not sure if we helped the poorest people. The casas we stayed at were very nice, so I imagine those people have money. I think that we did help them, and got to stay at some very nice places too. Generally, I think we benefitted the upper class of the local people. Because we went to the nicest restaurants. The poor are still poor, except maybe a few farmers serving drinks or running a tobacco operation in Vinales. We didn't visit where they lived or see them. I would have liked to see what the average person's house in old Havana looks like, because the casas we stayed at in Habana, Trinidad and Vinales were very nice! I don't think I got a good grasp of what the average Cuban's life is like. But then again, the tour guides probably wanted to shield us from things like that, and show us the nice places.4. Personally I liked Vinales best, but Cienfuegos and Trinidad are also well worth the visit.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
If staying in casas particulares, simple gift are very welcome, as are clothes. Always take toilet paper as it is often not available. Humidity is a big problem, and so energy levels are often low - don't expect to do anything very taxing.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The hospitality was very warm and the families were willing to do all they could to help us. At least a basic knowledge of Spanish is a big help.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Considering that Cuba is a very poor country and that one cannot expect the standards of hygiene and taste of most western countries, the overall impression is positive because the people are so welcomingKathleen Phelps review 14 May 2015

Staying with the local families was truly an eye opening experience! Every one of these people went beyond expectations to make my stay comfortable. They were always clean, comfortable, private and I loved the experience!2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Cuba itself is way more expensive that I expected. Not the tour itself, but the 'walking around' money that you need for food, water, etc. It's also impossible to walk up to a bank or ATM with your ATM card and get more US money, so this can be debilitating.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I felt that my vacation was a very beneficial experience between a common US citizen (albeit one who lives in Mexico) and the local Cuban people. I saw how the common people of Cuba were suffering from the US embargo and how much things need to change.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
The guide was charismatic and newly helpful, but he could have provided more information. I would rate the vacation a 4.5 out of 5.Holiday Reviews
