1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

I really enjoyed my visit to Capri. I thought it was beautiful and quaint, from the buildings, streets to the soft topped taxis. When I visited it was busy enough, you could walk comfortably and I felt safe.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Book the transfers, it's less hassle. Nothing did everything is covered in my opinion.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I believe the local people to where we stayed and visited did benefit, and that's down to the guide building up good relationships and the company choosing good locations.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I would rate this vacation as excellent, I got all the travel instructions well in advance and I was kept informed well. This was my first trip traveling on my own, and I thourly enjoyed it. From the places I visited to the group that I vacationed with. I will use this company again, and I would recommend this company.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Guided visit to Herculaneum and Pompeii

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

When choosing dates remember that summer is very hot and some activities take place in full sun.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Locally owned hotel, trips to local restaurants, cheese producer etc. Shown places producing local goods. Environmentally not particularly aware of this. (Sandwiches were in paper-bags, towels usual hotel policy of only changing on request).

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Highly enjoyable. Amalfi coast very popular destination but the company was good at personalising the experience.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Hike up and around the crater of Vesuvius, Herculaneum, Pompeii

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Shoulder season is better to see sites comfortably without hoards of people; Pompeii was still heaving on a damp November week so be warned! After booking we did read that November is the rainiest season and the weather seemed to live up to it! The weather is the risk you take, but the weather isn't predictable at any time.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

On the whole yes. It was based around a smaller, family-run hotel and the company ethos is around minimising our impact on local resources, immersing ourselves more easily in the local cultural and social heritage, using locally sourced food (which we understand the hotel did wherever possible) and respect for biodiversity. However, we did feel that the hotel we stayed at had a monopoly and we would have liked more opportunity to use other places in Bomerano (we did on our free night and had an excellent meal at a different local restaurant for very good value) or elsewhere to support other local businesses. The operator has also reduced the use of single-use plastic bottles from it's trips and encourages clients to do the same by providing free tap water to fill reusable water bottles. However, the hotel we stayed at used a lot of single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers (I hope the latter could be washed and reused but not sure if they were) which wasn't necessary. I refused mine but still ended up with them appearing in my glass! If they must use them, it would be good to see alternatives or them asking if people really need a straw. There wasn't much around conservation on this trip.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Overall a good trip, especially if you like a bit of walking and a bit of sightseeing and you want a lower impact vacation.

Read the operator's response here:

We would like to thank Kath for her review; we were pleased to read that she enjoyed the itinerary, however we were very sorry that she was so disappointed with the accommodation. The hotel in Bomerano uses biodegradable straws, and the stirrers, whilst plastic, are reusable and are washed after every use and this property has been using solar panels for the past 10 years to generate clean energy for the hotel’s day-to-day activity. The owner and staff are continuing their efforts to be more environmentally friendly as they are switching to eco-friendly toiletry options, as well as biodegradable packed lunch packaging, and will cease advertising bottled water at the hotel bar. Whilst we sincerely regret that Kath felt the accommodation had a negative impact on her tour, we genuinely hope that this helps reassure that there are conscious efforts to improve the sustainability and reduction of impact this property has on the environment.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Ravello and Positano were beautiful, my top areas we visited, i had thought it would be Sorrento and although it was gorgeous there too they just beat it!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Don't go with a fear of heights!! Some of the roads are pretty scary and The Path of the Gods was also absolutely amazing but also stomach turning! Turns out i have a bit of vertigo but i still managed it all and it was well worth all the scary moments so on second thoughts do go!!!!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely, we visited a lot of areas of interest, purchased tickets for gardens and churches, Pompeii and the like. Ate out at small restaurants quite a few of which were family run and had drinks in the smaller bars also so i definitely feel we contributed to the local economy. I would have liked to have recycled at our hotel and when out and about but the wasn't an option.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

One of my top 3 vacations and i have travelled a fair bit. It was so well organised, jam packed with places to go all of which we loved, not disappointed with anywhere. We had just enough time to relax too so it was a great combination. Only a week later i want to go back and do the trip again!! Our guide was fantastic also, could not fault him, funny, knowledgeable and so proud of his country. He made the vacation that much better if at all possible.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The Natural Beauty! stunning!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Good shoes!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes to benefit. I wasn't sure about reduced environmental impact or conservation.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I loved it! Good tour guide, accommodations and ease of travel. My only small complaint was the Pompeii guides took us on a long walk around to a remote part of village, then after entering past many newly discovered areas but by the time we got to the original interesting sites people were dropping out because of the heat, missing some of the best parts of Pompeii.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The most exciting part was that I joined some tour mates to walk the rest of the Path of Gods till Positano, as the scheduled walk was half way of the Path and returned the same way after a BBQ lunch. The coastal views are simply spectacular.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

While we avoided the crowds of tourists in this time of the year (end of March), the flowers, the trees and the plants are yet in bloom.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I felt my vacation benefited local people as we based in a small town and stayed in a family-run hotel.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I would rate my vacation an enjoyable and pleasant one. I hope I could stay longer !

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Undoubtedly Herculaneum and Pompeii - they were the reasons I booked this trip and I wasn't disappointed. Capri was amazing too.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

There is a lot of walking - some very strenuous - the Path of the Gods for instance is a long hike with lots of steep climbs and descents. We were not a walking group but a group of mixed abilities and some of our group would have chosen not to take the walk if the difficulty had been properly explained. This is not a restful vacation and there is very little down time.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think the vacation did benefit local people - the hotel we stayed in, our guide, the restaurants and the attractions we visited.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I would give it four stars out of five because when it was good it was outstandingly good - if Path of the Gods had been an option for a free day and something else was on offer I would have given it five stars.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Scenery of the Amalfi Coast

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be prepared for crowds at popular sites and longish travel by coach on narrow winding roads.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Clearly provided employment in the local village and income for the various shops and cafes in the village.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good. Thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent service from the tour guides.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Pompei was amazing although we didn't have nearly enough time to appreciate the site.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Very interesting and full vacation but not a relaxing vacation at all. Every day is very full.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Most exciting was definitely Walk of the Gods, from Bomerano where we stayed to Positano over 2000' down on the coast. Fantastic views surrounded by wildflowers and herbs, across precipitous slopes and finally descending steps through cacti gardens from Montpertuso. But I also have to say I was surpised by how attractive Naples was, with its very elegant seafront.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The combination of mountains and coast means that you can experience every sort of weather in one day. So apply sun cream first thing, dress in layers, and have an umbrella or pakamac in your pocket. When walking in the hills or up Vesuvius, think skiing - if you let anything slip it could quickly be lost forever, so I had my glasses on a chain and used the wriststrap on my camera, pinned on my sunhat, etc. Keep 50 cent coins handy for automated public toilets!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes! all our guides and drivers were local and tourism was the major source of income for them. Using a small minibus was much more environmentally-friendly than independent travel, and it reduced number of vehicles on twisty mountain roads. Itinerary was well thought out, eg using local ferries to return to base.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent, can't think why it didn't occur to me to visit this area before.
