1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The scenery. So much to do and see. ( hiking, glaciers and waterfalls, horseback riding on a black beach, snorkeling, soaking in lagoons, diamond beach, whale watching, northern lights, etc)

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

We were self driving so GPS is a must. Worked out perfect even in the remote places we stayed

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Hope so. Everyone we met were so kind and pleasant. Hope we were too.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Outstanding. My wife and I have traveled all over Europe and Iceland is as beautiful a country as we have seen. Our thanks to David at the tour operator who responded to our one question immediately. ( a light came on in the car and we were not familiar with it. It turned out to be no problem.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Snorkelling at Silfra and snow mobiling on Langjokull

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Book your own accomodation; AirBnb/VRBO would have given more suitable and often cheaper options; too often our self catering accomodation was
booked as if we had small children traveling rather than adult sized teenagers. It also followed some odd geographies causing us to drive an extra 100km in
the middle of the vacation simply to access accomodation and then doubling back the next day (whilst on the N1 so not the most isolated part of the country)

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Financially yes; we spent a lot of money on local services and products. Not sure about the environmental impacts; taking tour buses into isolated national
parks is clearly better than individual vehicles but driving petrol engines on glaciers whilst an amazing experience is less justifiable. I would imagine the fees
for entry to national parks etc do support conservation (and the quality of parks and their protection is way higher than anywhere else I have experienced)

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very enjoyable; we would go again; the few things that went wrong (hotel overbooked, turning up late for one activity) were all rectified quickly.

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for sending over your feedback! It's great to hear that you had such an enjoyable time, in particular the snorkelling at Silfra and
snowmobiling on Langjokull. It's so lovely to hear that that you'd even like to go back again!

I completely understand your remarks about the accommodation and whilst AirBnb does offer lots of accommodation options, it's not a platform that we
can use to book places for our customers. However, we will be more clear to future customers about the geographies of those places we do book.

You are quite right. The national park fees do support the conservation of those areas and we also work with a local partner to help run projects that also
aim to make a positive impact to the local people, as well as reduce environmental impacts and support conservation.

It's so great that you enjoyed yourselves so much and I do hope we can put together another fantastic vacation for you to one of our other destinations in the
future.

If there is anything further you'd like to discuss at all, please do feel free to get in touch.

Warm regards,
Miles

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Our vacations are designed to make good things happen, for you and the places you visit. We believe that tourism can be a force for good, so we strive to preserve and support local communities and wildlife wherever we go. For us, an Iceland vacation is all about getting back to nature and experiencing local hospitality. Enjoy the dramatic scenery of The Westman Islands, spot whales from a traditional fishing boat, hike across the rugged West Fjords or climb the Vatnajökull in Skaftafell Natural Park.

Before departing on this trip, our customers will always receive an informative document called 'Be a responsible traveler', which provides useful advice on how they are able to travel in an environmentally-friendly way such as using reusable water bottles and limiting the amount of energy that they use.

We are very passionate about recycling, beginning in our Brighton office where we use a local company to ensure we all know where our waste is going, we encourage a no wastage policy, by asking staff to take leftover food home. We also have a largely ‘paperless’ office, refraining from publishing brochures and other marketing collateral, and instead of producing electronic documentation to ensure we use as little paper as possible.

People

We share very similar values to our local partners, ensuring our clients are taken to the ‘real’ Iceland in an authentic and meaningful way.

Wherever possible, we work with independently owned accommodation so that more of our travelers’ money stays in the local communities they are visiting. We also use local knowledgeable guides wherever possible for our excursions. We also encourage people to stay in local guesthouses as apposed to the the large chains. Within our local guesthouses customers are directly giving back to the staff who live locally, they also source local produce that will directly benefit local suppliers. One of our guesthouses in Iceland called solheimahjaleiga has a self sustainable farm on their grounds which allows them to grow their own produce. On our trips in Iceland we include breakfast throughout where you will have the option of a vegan/vegetarian breakfast also.

In our documentation that we send out prior to their departure, we inform all of our travelers on the appropriate customs and etiquette when traveling in Iceland.

We also recommend local activates that they can book once they are in country which also helps the local communities. We also our customers for tips when they return so that we can gain more knowledge on the local activities and small restaurants and shops to visit.
