Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
The Canadian Rockies located along the Continental Divide is an integral part of North America's watershed. The icefield parkway is home to the Columbia Icefield, the Columbia Icefield is one of the few surviving remnants of the thick ice mass that once mantled most of Western Canada's mountains, it lies on a wide, elevated plateau, and it is the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies and the most visible giving guests an awe-inspiring view and highlighting the unique environment we are riding through.
Nearly three-quarters of the park's highest peaks are located close to the icefield; ideally placed to catch much of the moisture that Pacific winds carry across the British Columbia interior. Most of this precipitation falls as snow; up to 7 meters a year! Your trip leaders will have extensive information regarding water consumption and how important this watershed is for us, the wildlife, and the ecosystem as a whole.
Wildlife is an integral part of our National Parks ecosystem, overtime restrictions have been created on their natural movement by infrastructure like roads and towns being built in their main travel corridor. The national park services have been working tirelessly over the years to mitigate the impacts.
At the beginning of your journey you will be made aware of how to safely interact with the wildlife and have a reduced impact on the environment. Simple rules such as maintaining a safe distance, not feeding them, and appropriately disposing of waste will be mentioned for your safety and theirs.
Throughout your trip, your guides will highlight the different ways in which the park services are helping minimize our impact on the wildlife and ecosystem. We as a group will also be following the guidelines of the Leave No Trace code of outdoor ethics. This initiative guarantees that we will be exploring these fragile areas with minimal disturbance and in full respect of others.
The team is looking forward to the many conversations, questions, and sharing information about the watershed and the unique environment with you while cycling and dining.
