We know the wildlife and ecosystems of Ghana intimately and are committed to their protection and preservation. Almost all of the wild species of animal in Ghana are threatened by poaching and habitat loss, and we are determined to do all we can to avoid losing them forever. This is particularly the case for pangolin, of which three species (black-bellied, white-bellied and giant) can be seen during this tour. Demand for the scales of these beautiful animals in Vietnamese medicine have driven an exponential increase in poaching and trafficking of these animals. We will always inform all clients on this tour of the plight currently facing pangolins across Africa and encourage them to do their part to protect this iconic animal. Besides pangolins, many species and ecosystems in Ghana are threatened and our visit is designed to attach value to these animals and areas we best we can, playing a small part to secure their future. Forest elephants, bongo, leopard and many smaller mammals must be protected in Ghana before it is too late. Mole even protects tiny populations of lion and spotted hyena, the only populations of these species in the country.

This itinerary is designed to have a minimal impact on the local environment, with most game viewing conducted on foot and most accommodation being run by local people with a tiny carbon footprint. All game viewing is intended to have negligible impact on wildlife. We will never continue a sighting should an animal exhibit signs of stress as the result of our presence. When viewing wildlife at night, we will never spotlight diurnal animals, and we will never spotlight an animal that is young, vulnerable or injured. Unlike some operators, should we be lucky enough to locate a pangolin, we will never handle it or disturb it in any way.

People

It is very important to us that our local suppliers employ people from local communities, to ensure that communities attach genuine value to threatened wildlife and ecosystems as a result of ecotourism. All guides, drivers, cooks and housekeeping staff employed in the course of this tour are Ghanaian. We encourage all clients to consider gratuity payments for all local staff who help to make your stay an enjoyable one.

We ask that all clients exercise patience, respect and politeness when interacting with local people. As this tour visits many areas rarely visited by other tours, our presence is often greeted with curiosity by local communities, and we ask clients to respond to this with a smile - it will mean the world to many people, especially local children! Clients are welcome to bring with them any materials they may wish to donate to local schools or projects, including books and toys. We ask clients to dress modestly wherever possible, although we appreciate Ghana can be a hot and humid destination. Clients are also asked never to photograph local people without their consent.
