Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

CARBON REDUCTION
Staying on a sailboat contributes to carbon reduction in multiple ways. Sailboats rely on wind power, minimizing the use of fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation. By choosing this eco-friendly accommodation option, you directly reduce your carbon footprint compared to traditional forms of lodging. As with many countries, waste disposal is a problem. Rubbish, particularly plastic rubbish, that does not decompose, is one of the main culprits. All our yachts use a water maker to reduce our use of plastic. Enjoy nature- hike, swim, kayak, surf, skate- all these forms of transportation can let you help keep your carbon footprint to a minimum. Additionally, staying on a sailboat encourages a deeper connection with nature and fosters an appreciation for sustainable practices, promoting a more environmentally conscious mindset among visitors to this region.

All of our yachts offer top-notch menu options. When possible, our food is sourced locally, and we get fresh produce whenever we can. We offer vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free meals which can help reduce your carbon footprint in several ways. By embracing a vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free diet, you can make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future. Please inform the crew of any dietary restrictions so we may accommodate them.

ENVIRONMENT/WILDLIFE
Our yachts always have two instructors on board, providing guidance to a crew with varying levels of experience, from beginners to fully qualified individuals. The crew members can choose the extent of their learning journey, as we teach in practical situations while sailing from one destination to another. Apart from acquiring sailing skills, our crew also gains insights into different cultures and communities. Our fortunate crew gets to explore off-the-beaten-path and visit some of the most remote places in the world.

We ask our clients to follow these tips to reduce their impact on nature:
Stick to marked paths and trails to avoid damaging vegetation and wildlife habitats. Respect wildlife by observing from a safe distance and refraining from feeding or disturbing them. Dispose of waste properly and leave no trace behind, especially in sensitive areas. Conserve water and energy and use eco-friendly products. By adopting these practices, you can help preserve the natural beauty of the Island and contribute to its long-term sustainability.

LOCAL ECONOMY/TRAVELING WITH RESPECT
By sailing we can help the local economy. When possible, spending money on provisions, fuel, dining, and other goods and services during your stay, benefits local businesses such as restaurants, markets, and shops. By choosing to sail, you are fostering sustainable tourism development.

In order to offer a more immersive cultural experience, we allocate time to explore the towns and cities on foot. This approach not only minimizes our carbon footprint but also enables us to delve deeper into local communities and engage with the residents. By exploring on foot, we prioritize understanding and respecting the social and cultural aspects of each destination. To ensure this, our instructors provide informative reading materials about regional customs in advance. This allows us to create meaningful and enriching opportunities for our travelers while fostering positive interactions and exchange of ideas with local inhabitants, without inadvertently causing any offense.

We extend a warm invitation to individuals of all age groups to venture beyond their comfort zones within a secure setting. Our professional crew, which includes 2 instructors, provides supervision and guidance. Whenever feasible, we offer the opportunity for visitors to come aboard our ship at each port we visit. We showcase our activities, share insights about valuable skills and their significance, and demonstrate that there exists a form of sea-bound adventure travel that upholds respect for the ocean. It is an experience where one can forge a profound connection with oneself, others, and the natural world.

The Norwegian law pertaining to the preservation of nature's diversity, known as the Naturmangfoldloven, enacted on July 1st, 2009, has had a profound impact on Norway's natural landscape and has also influenced international efforts in nature and environmental conservation. The disappearance of various species in nature leads to their permanent extinction, making Norway steadfast in its ambitious objective of halting biodiversity loss. This new law plays a crucial role in safeguarding wildlife and national parks.

One notable provision of this Norwegian law is the freedom to cycle wherever desired unless otherwise specified. This grants countless possibilities for captivating excursions. However, it is important to refrain from accessing private property and cultivated land to ensure the preservation of nature and prevent any harm. Access to protected areas may have stricter regulations, so it is advisable to adhere to designated paths and roads when walking or biking through agricultural and populated regions. Demonstrating respect for both people and animals is essential.

The conservation law serves as a comprehensive framework governing the utilization of the environment. It recognizes nature as a national treasure deserving protection and emphasizes that interventions in nature should be carried out with long-term and holistic resource optimization in mind, ensuring the preservation of nature for future generations as a foundation for human activities, well-being, and health. The legislation also provides additional guidelines for safeguarding special natural areas and resources, including national parks, conservation areas, nature reserves, and natural landmarks.
