1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Laguna de Apoya for calm, volcano sandboarding for an adrenaline rush. Hiking waterfalls, and volcanos

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

First stop Leon, spend at least 2 nights, and 2 days immersing yourself in the warmth and culture. Take time out and do museums to understand their volatile
history from prehistoric to current day. After a few days of activities enjoy the tranquility and recharge your batteries at Hotel San Simian, Laguna de Apoya.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I hope so, staying in biospheres and nature reserves.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good, a little rushed at the start, especially after a long haul flight. We have some great memories and photos. Can't believe we did volcano sandboarding, a lot easier than I first thought!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The local tour company who we use has achieved different acknowledgment diplomas for the innovation of active product and sustainable programs in the country. They are committed to improving their tourist services for the social, economic and environmental development of Nicaragua. This means that the local tour company is aware of the sustainability for the country.

To reinforce their sustainable philosophy the have, along with Rainforest Alliance, established an alliance to support Best Management Practice in Sustainable Tourism since June 5th, 2007, moreover they are the creator of Bosawas Maps and on each edition of each city map they promote a carefully selected local project working in the key areas of environment, social development or community based tourism.

A part of this trip exist of camping, but when we are nott camping we always try to use hotels and eco-lodges which actively support responsible travel.

People

We only use local guides as we want to support the communities and believe that the best advice can only be given by those who are immersed in the culture. Who can do this better than the local people? We pay fair wages and treat everybody equally as part of the community responsibility and we request that you do the same.
Furthermore, we use local businesses and services and recommend visiting markets and purchasing the handmade crafts. We also recommend restaurants and visit villages that are off the usual tourist path thus interacting and supporting local communities and hopefully injecting some much needed capital in to the local economy. Therefore the tourist will get new experience while supporting the local community.

Our local staff accompanying this expedition will give you a real sense of Nicaraguan culture. We pay all staff fair wages and treat everybody on the trip, including staff, with equal respect and we expect you to do the same.
