Family vacations in Europe
Europe celebrates kids and you’ll find a family-sized welcome wherever you choose to go, plus all sorts of exciting activities to keep children of any age entertained.
Family vacations in Europe are simple – for starters, it’s easy to get around. Secondly, there’s just so much to choose from. Spain is much more than buckets, spades and sunshine, and is fantastic for active teenagers who can get stuck into biking, rafting and canyoning; Greece’s irresistible islands sing with wildlife from monk seals and turtles to flapping pelicans; or, if you’re a bit of a pro at traveling with little ones, why not opt for something completely different like exploring the legend of Dracula in Romania, or learning outdoor survival skills in Lapland’s magical wilderness.

Things to do in Europe with kids
Stay underground
Cosy, cool and something completely different, the cave houses of Granada are set amongst natural parks, swirling pools, horse riding trails and gorgeous traditional villages. An exciting accommodation alternative, they make an excellent base for adventure or culture vacations in Spain and the inside temperature remains pleasantly cool year-round.
Ride the rapids
Now, we know white water rafting doesn’t exactly scream ‘safe’ at first glance, but honestly, it is – team it with Croatia’s excellent instructors, impeccable safety standards and an inflatable raft tumbling down the white waters of the Una River and you’ve got a ride more thrilling than any water park can offer.Meet the real Rudolph
A visit to a traditional Lappish reindeer farm in Finland is a wonderful way to learn about Lapland’s inimitable nature and culture. Gentle reindeers are pivotal to life in northern Finland, and the herders are always keen to share tales of their daily lives and reindeer husbandry, before taking you on sleigh rides wrapped in warm blankets.

Tips for family vacations in Europe
Katherine Tory, from our supplier, Exodus, shares her experience of traveling in Finland with her goddaughter: “I took my goddaughter to Finland during February half-term; crisp fresh air, the call of the wilderness and thrilling winter activities ensued! We discovered this Narnia-like paradise on snowshoes, cross-country skis and by husky sled; we then refuelled on hearty home cooked meals, and stared in amazement at the Northern Lights before cosying down in wooden cabins. We couldn’t have asked for a more fun-filled half-term break."
Tim Winkworth, from our supplier Intrepid shares his advice on family vacations in Europe:
“Europe is a wonderful destination for families looking for a vacation together. The summer provides lovely long days and temperate conditions in the summer months, which is particularly obvious on our summer Iceland trip where there are often 18 – 20 hours of daylight giving you plenty of time to explore the incredible landscape. It’s also festival time with a multitude of festivals taking the advantage of the long days. With little rain and temperatures in the 20s rather than 30s, it’s no surprise that Europe attracts a large amount of families looking for great conditions, lots of variety and long days to maximise their time together.”
