Our tours in Tanzania are run in conjunction with a locally owned and based partner who shares our environmental goals and commitment to operate in a responsible manner. There are many fragile eco-systems in Tanzania and our safari guides and drivers provide advice on how to behave to ensure that any negative impact is prevented and to uphold these values on ecologically sustainable treks and safaris.

Whilst on safari, travelers will be accompanied by a knowledgeable local ranger at all times who will explain how to view wildlife responsibly, without infringing upon their normal behaviour. They will advise our families to be as quiet as they can at all times, be as unobtrusive as possible, wear the correct coloured clothing whilst walking in the bush and avoid dressing or acting in a way which might cause offence to local people.

It should go without saying that our guides remind travelers not to litter – everything you carry in you must carry out. Aside from the environmental damage, litter can be harmful to the wildlife. In addition to this, travelers can not interfere with the wildlife and habitat by not encouraging guides to take them too close to the animals, thus putting them under pressure. They also should not pick plants and flowers, encouraging the driver to depart from the usual track, make noises to attract or frighten the wildlife. Also remember - do not be afraid of the animals – even the largest will move quietly away if given the opportunity.

It is important that families obey all game laws and regulations, and respect the fact that their guide is also bound by these same laws and regulations.

It is also of crucial important to refrain from buying, or trading for, any items which are covered under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). This includes ivory, rhino horn, butterflies, turtle products, furs, and many plant species.

Our UK office is run as environmentally as possible. The majority of our staff either walk or cycle to work and we operate a primarily paper free environment. We do not produce brochures (which often leads to a lot of waste) but market our tours exclusively on the internet.

People

Our local partner has a strong commitment to sharing expertise with Tanzania's indigenous population through access to employment, training, quality living wage and improved living conditions. Labour and consumables are all sourced locally in order to ensure a sustainable and localized business.

Our guides will remind families that it is good to support the local economy by buying locally crafted souvenirs, however when bartering over the price (which is both expected and accepted) there is no need to drive too hard a bargain – an amount which may be fairly insignificant to you can represent a lot to a local.

We would also advise people not to give sweets, pens etc to children on the street as it can encourage begging. It is better to give through a local organisation or school.

As a courtesy, ask before you take a picture of someone. If they ask you to pay, we would discourage you from taking the picture.
