Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We are committed to preserving and respecting the environment and do whatever we can to ensure the integrity of the environment is not tampered with. Our guides also rely on the undisturbed natural environment for the sustainability of their employment. Our organization expects that our guests will have extreme regard for, and will not damage the local habitat. We commit to teaching all visitors to comply with those actions that can and cannot be performed while in our care. This will highlight the list of do's and don’ts, and will contribute to national efforts to protect the marine and terrestrial life forms located on Dominica.
We also strive to minimize our environmental footprint and commit to decreasing all solid waste including garbage, paper products, amenity bottles, and food service items while on tour. We intend to accomplish this by reducing total materials, and planning our programme to reduce the need for recyclable products.
We believe that the land we utilize is not ours to destroy; rather it is our responsibility to protect and value our habitat and the ecosystems within, to ensure viability of our operation.
People
Our offerings are grounded in showcasing 'things local', and we delve into and partner with local communities wherever possible. In so doing have created a product that allows our guests deep insights into the real Dominica. On this vacation and in the southern community of Soufriere (so long as the trip schedule allows this activity to be on a school day), we stop at the local Primary School and provide our guests a quick peek into our education system. We have provided support to this school through networks established with (such) previous visitors, and these have resulted in donations to the school feeding programme, and the provision of books, stationery, and equipment following the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
We have had equal success in the northernmost community of Capuchin, where we collaborated with the Capuchin Tourism Group in the development of the local pontoon to allow our guests to be safely loaded onto the local fishing vessels as part of the local community tour offered to guests along Segment 14 of the Waitukubuli National Trail. The pontoon is also used by the fishermen and local agriculture traders to load/off load their produce on a daily basis.
