The operator that runs this itinerary and will be guiding your dog-sled trip is committed to environmental sustainability and to responsible travel. An additional charge is added to the cost of each booking and this environmental investment is donated in its entirety to projects contributing to a sustainable future in Svalbard and supports the operators efforts to be climate neutral. This environmental investment goes to support a partnered Agro-Forestry project– a tree planting initiative in Kenya.Within this itinerary some of the lodges have received acknowledgement and accreditations for their environmental efforts. Firstly, Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen has obtained certification for their environmental efforts from Eco-lighthouse, which is Norway’s most widely used certification scheme which aims to create more environmentally friendly enterprises and safer work environments. They set out industry-specific requirements of which Basecamp Hotel has been independently assessed against and must undergo re-certification every three years along with submitting annual environmental reports.
Isfjord Radio was awarded with the St Olav’s Rose – a hallmark of Norwegian Heritage. The symbol points out to especially distinguished places that have succeeded to combine development and protection in modern way.
