As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
The Wahiba desert camp, 1000 Nights Camp, which is locally owned and employs local Omanis to help run it. It is furnished and decorated using regional furniture and materials and provides locally sourced food and traditional entertainment to help support the local community. There is no electricity at the camp with no light pollution or sound pollution as the camp uses natural resources to blend in with the environment. All waste from the campsites is taken away and recycled. There is no evidence left of any travelers staying in the desert. We train our drivers and guides for Eco friendly tourism.
Our Guides and drivers are instructed to collect the garbage in a trash bag and dispose off it in Garbage bins. Our drivers collect the trash they find at any place they stop for break.
Also we encourage customers to carry their own water bottles and use big cans instead of small water bottles. The cans are filled at each hotel of stay before the tour. The guest fill in their bottles to use it for the day for drinking. This helps us to avoid using too many plastic bottles. We encourage our drivers to maintain the speed limit and drive slowly when passing through the villages.
Oman's vision of diversifying state sources of revenues and reducing the country's dependence on finite natural resources has led to numerous projects in the tourism and hospitality sector, in addition to projects in traditional sectors such as infrastructure, petrochemicals, electricity and water. This has resulted in the development (or proposed development) of several large resort and integrated tourism projects. Other sectors that have seen notable projects include mining, agriculture & fisheries.

We ensure our driver/guides take guests off the beaten track locations where tourism helps the local communities there by supporting local trade and livelihoods,An option is to stay at with an Omani family at their guesthouse in the rural village of Misfah. This will let you experience traditional Omani life and it supports the local community and brings economy to the village.
Another option is to visit the Ibra womens market, this is open once a week and attracts women-only buyers and sellers from all over the region, selling a variety of handicrafts such as baskets, woven cushions and camel bags. Men are not welcome, and photographs are prohibited here in the only souq in the country dedicated to female shoppers.
On this tour you will visits several local communities in the Wahiba Sands where you can see the traditional way of life and purchase handicrafts made by the locals. Any money from the sale of the handicrafts helps the local Bedouins to support their families. Local Bedouin guides are hired to explain their way of life to clients on parts of this tour. This enables them to earn a regular living from the visiting tourists.
We provide a local Omani guide for the duration of your time out on your 4WD adventure, They will share their local knowledge of their history, culture, customs and lifestyle. Often the guides have strong links with the local Bedouin people, with whom they interact on a regular basis or have associations with the local tribes.
