Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

1. Our vehicles follow the latest emission standards applicable in India, and our drivers are trained to drive within the speed limits for optimal efficiency.

2. The vehicles undergo regular checks

3. We don't take vehicles all the way to villages in certain areas to nullify the noise and carbon pollution. Your walk will be easy from drop off point to the village

4. Meghalya is one of the cleanest states of North East India. You will see how it is imbibed in the fabric of locals. To follow this practice, we provide alternatives to plastic bottles and carry bags at the starting of your tour

5. Locals are trained in responsible tourism and are carefully chosen depending upon their passion about environmental conservation. Your accommodations are built by using traditional materials like bamboo, straw, and waste wooden planks. This helps in controlling temperature and they are durable. CFL & LED lighting is preferred over tungsten bulbs to reduce usage of electricity.

6. Raw material for cooking is sourced locally. The meals you get are local, thus reducing the cost and environmental impact of transporting it from long distance

7. Wood fire is replaced by cooking gas at most villages to reduce air pollution and cutting of trees

People

1. We execute small private tours of 2-10 people to be conscious about the consumption of natural and human resources of the village.

2. We are providing direct access to the artisans of handicrafts via tourism, where you can buy (if you choose to)

3. Your activities are designed with local gender neutral SHGs. This initiative is to give you an immersive experience. This is to provide more exposure to artisans and to encourage you to buy anything directly from them.

4. The homestays are not run by front desk staff, but by the families or members of the village community. The earnings go directly to the locals in a fair distribution manner.

5. We do not encourage treating tribes as objects of amusement. Rather, we educate and be a bridge between the locals and the visitors so that there is mutual respect and cultural exchange.
