We really enjoyed the Badada Codina hike - in Sierra Escambray. The hike was 3-4 hours... Our guide was great - telling us stories about the nature we were seeing, but also about herself and the people living in the mountains... She took us to the caves, and then to the state-run restaurant where we (surprisingly) had an amazing lunch with roasted pig, rice, Cristal and coffee & fruits at the end. The best part of our vacation overall were all the guided walks that were arranged for us; all our guides were young, educated, bi-lingual and delightful. We learnt so much from what they told us and their enthusiasm for their country and culture was infectious. We would not have felt so immersed in Cuba without their input and as a result I found myself leaving Cuba with a huge respect for the Cubans and their culture.
