Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONWe limit the amount of internal flights and chose to travel mostly by ferry or land travel. Only for the islands not easily accessible by ferry we offer the option to take a local flight. We take this very seriously and follow strict rules to minimise flight island hopping.
As there is a lot of walking on this trip we significantly keep our carbon output low.
Food on the trip is often provided from small local restaurants to which the food is local sourced from products coming from the nearby local markets. At the chosen local restaurants it is possible to adjust meals to simple vegetarian meals.
We advise on carbon reduction and reducing impacts to travelers always before the vacation starts through the pre-trip information.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
On this program we strive to preserve and protect delicate routes and natural habitats in order to not enhance mass-tourism in remote areas and minimise the effects of our presence in such areas. We therefore choose routes for the program that are specific for Tourism and walking and avoid exploring remote areas to protect and conserve remote areas.
- We inform clients about lack of water on Cape Verde and water use prior to starting the program to minimize overuse of water. This is also seen written in the vacation notes and we therefore ask travelers to minimise the use of water. Reducing water usage helps keep water use sustainable which is much needed on small Islands. In general and at the family guesthouses wastewater leftover water from the kitchen, cleaning, laundry is reused for use in the garden for crops etc.
- We opt for small guesthouses or Ecolodges which need less space and less cutting of trees to make space for big hotels example. Also small guesthouses are more open to proper care of food waste and are more aware of their footprint.
- Travelers receive a pre-trip information with responsible highlights that includes on reducing impacts on nature, especifically in regards to the impacts of the walking routes and the importance of that.

LOCAL ECONOMYThe accommodations selected of the programme are locally owned and run by staff for the villages or towns around.
On the programme the emphasis is to stay at these smaller owned guesthouses inside more remote areas to also highlight fishermen's villages and farming villages on route.
On the programme we mainly focus to highlight smaller towns and villages and smaller guesthouses, we work together with the local guides of the areas.
Clients stay in small guesthouses which benefits the community welfare by protecting natural space and resources.
On this programme there will be also an engangement dialogue and interaction session with local female farmers on the subject of women empowerment and highlighting females in agriculture on the routes.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We believe in the human rights protection of local people, in specific the protection of young females being exposed. We give a voice to this through the women's empowerment program. To be able to do our programs of empowerment part of the money earned from the trip goes to such a program so these programs are given at our cost for free.
We only work and support local guides that are from the actual islands and have both local knowledge and nature knowledge of these areas. We furthermore support the local guides from within the actual smaller communities and follow fair standards above the minimum.
We nurture a diverse strategy regardless of gender, nationality or orientation.
