Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We recognise the international importance of the ecosystems in Southern Cameroon. In particular, Lobeke, Campo Ma'an and Dja are all hugely important areas for charismatic wildlife including gorilla, chimpanzee, forest elephant, buffalo, African golden cat, and much more. We therefore know that visitors have a unique responsibility to protect and preserve both the ecosystems, and the wildlife they protect. All game-viewing on this trip is conducted on foot - we will never pursue an animal that chooses to move away from us, nor will we approach an animal when we believe our presence may cause the animal in question to become vulnerable or distressed. This includes limiting time spent near young or injured animals. There may also be opportunities for night walks on this tour, using spotlights. Wherever possible on these walks, we will seek to avoid spotlighting diurnal wildlife, and we will never spotlight wildlife we deem to be injured, young or otherwise vulnerable.

It is important that our visit directly contributes to conservation. Included in the cost of your tour are fees paid directly to local ecoguards, as well as organisations that protect the reserves we visit. These funds are put towards initiatives including community engagement and anti-poaching exercises.

People

It is imperative that ecotourism works hand in hand with local communities, delivering genuine benefits to the people and economies that surround protected areas. When done properly, this ensure that these benefits provide specific incentives to local people, and the communities of which they are a part, to protect and preserve the wildlife and ecosystems that visitors come to see and enjoy. This does a huge amount to secure the future of vulnerable protected areas such as Lobeke, Campo Ma'an and Dja. With this in mind, we insist that all suppliers on this tour employ local Cameroonian people and, as such, clients should expect that drivers, ecoguards, cooks, guides and housekeeping staff employed during this tour are Cameroonian.

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour that is disrespectful towards local people, their culture or their traditions. We ask that clients are open-minded in their discussions concerning controversial topics, such as hunting, and understand that local sensibilities may differ from their own. We ask clients to never photograph anyone without their consent, and to dress modestly, where possible.
