Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We've constructed grey water soakaways to ensure the beach, bay and reefs are protected from wastewater from our premises. We had not previously understood the negative impact of such waste and are pleased to have now rectified this.

We are lucky enough to be visited by hundreds of birds across our accommodations daily, having spent 15 years creating a sanctuary for wildlife within our tropical gardens. The endangered agouti is now a common sight, along with iguana, and a nesting armadillo that was first spotted in 2016. Over 70 species of birds can be viewed from our accommodations. To encourage their visits and prosperity we've invested in an array of bird feeders and guests can enjoy even more visits from the local wildlife.

We have undertaken extensive tree and shrub planting to maximise soil retention and avoid the risk of soil erosion and landslides. Paths with drainage systems have been constructed to ensure the safe run off of water from our land to the highway below.

People

We are committed to supporting local businesses as much as possible and in doing so take zero commission from any birdwatching/wildlife trips that we set up through our local partners in Tobago.

We encourage our guests to use the services in the village including local places to eat. Our restaurant deliberately offers a different level of service and style of cooking (more Caribbean fusion than local) and our prices are higher which avoids a feeling of competition with the village.

Our staff are our stakeholders. We are proud to work successfully as an intimate, family run eco-resort which is managed by empowered locals who have a stake in the business. A number of our staff have established satellite services under our banner such as airport transfers, laundry, bread making and boat trips. We take no commission for these services. Currently we are supporting our Wellness Team to train as snorkelling guide with local organisation, Environmental Research Institute Charlottesville, to create more business opportunities for them and activities on-site for our guests.
